purchasing 2011 tacoma SR5 - vs - Sport

Hi all - I am new to site and in the proccess of buying a 2011 DB 4wd LB V6 auto, my question to the experts is there any mechanical differences from the sport to the sr5, I know the sport has better shocks , but are the spring rates different or any thing i should consider, i like the sr5 due to no hood scoop and no 17'' wheels. Just want to make sure there is no major mechanical differences i might be missing , i like plain but capable. Thanks in advance.

 

I was told the sport has better suspension for hauling or towing. A big difference to me in the TRD's are the bucket seats. I sat in a SR5 and quickly noticed the difference in the seats. As far as the hood scoop, why not go for the TRD off road? It still has the bucket seats w/o the hood scoop, get the locking differential, and more. If I lived up north with more snow, I would have went for the off road myself. But I personally like the hood scoop and the painted grill on my sport.

 

if you dont like the scoop or 17" rims go with the TRD Offroad. i hear that the seats in the SR5 are brutal/.

Oh yeah, forgot you cant get a long bed w/off road. Wasn't thinking about that, I guess due to the fact I wanted the short bed.

 

The bucket seats on the SR5 are quite comfortable.

yep, had the SR5 for a little over 3 years and no complaints with the seats. I even added the 17" TRD sport wheels and some color matched stuff so I've got a model-confused truck . If you do get a TRD Sport I'm sure you could get trade your scooped hood with someone on here and get some extra cash out of the deal also. Or see if the dealer will swap them out for you if you're buying brand new.

 

Thanks for replys - i thought the seats wre just re-covered in different fabric, but i guess not. I wish i could get the trd offroad, but no go with a long bed , which is a must. I might be able to get the dealer to swap hoods for me. This is just going to be a second vehicle for my wife and I., so i don,t need all the bling stuff the sport has, but i do like the suspension stuff. How is the standard limited slip or is just modulated by the brakes? This is my first small pickup as i drive a 3500 chevy 4wd crewcab long bed diesel for work.

 

I'm looking at new 2011 Tacomas too...I'm probably gonna go with the TRD Sport, I like the price a little better on the SR5 but I like the interior, color match parts, bed options "power outlet is nice" and the hood scoop on the TRD better. Heck to me the hood scoop & color match parts are reason enough to get the TRD. The lot I'm dealing with didnt have any TRD Off-Roads in, I dont know what the price difference between it and a TRD Sport are...You guys know on average?

 

+1... for me, at least. I went with the SR5 because of the seats. The TRD seats felt too confining to me. Everyone's different, though.

 

Price is only around $500 more for the off road. To me the price difference is not enough to sway your decission. Get what you want, not enough to make much difference. Just remember you get a lot of functional extras on the off road and more bling with the sport. Had a hard time trying to decide on that one myself. Since I'm in the south where it hardly snows, I stuck with the sport. Plus the fact that it was the only truck I could find in the state that had the JBL package I wanted. If I lived up north I probably would have went for the off road. Good luck!

 

I thought the 110v outlet was in any trd? The sport offroad and xrunner

 

Yeah I've found the SR5 seats incredibly comfortable, so if the TRD seats are 10x better, I'm really curious to see why that is.

 

We get a lot of snow and my Sport owns the snow. Even more so now with the Duratracs I don't even use my 4wd most of the time in snow. I preferred the looks of the Sport too which is why I went with it. Don't do any serious off roading except for some sand and mild trails so that's why I went with the looks of the Sport over the locker with the OR.

 

thanks for the feedback- we picked out a white sport longbed 4wd and pick it up on wensday, after they add the roofrack,tube steps and bed extender.
