    Hi

I just had a call from dealer from whom I have ordered new '22 truck. He said they have run into issues in past with fitting the OEM 2" lift kits and have had to purchase additional items to help ensure the drive line post fitment is perfect. Without this they ran into issues with very bad vibration in rear until these additional shims were added to straighten everything up. He said other dealers had run into same issue and he has been nervous ever since about the kits as resolving these issues takes extra parts and additional labour.

Any insights would be helpful as would hate to have a brand new truck lifted only to find issues!

OME FK29 drive shaft spacer kit, $30 and 5mins.

EDIT: doesn't sound like you even have the lift installed yet, are these just theoretical "issues"? Tons of us with OME lifts on this forum have no vibration issues.

Are you talking OME or OEM?

If OEM, I'm unaware of any issues with the Toyota TRD Lift Kit.

If OME (Old Man Emu), FK29 spacer kit as Raijin said.

Yes talking about the OEM 2" lift kit which incs the new grill etc. I was unaware of any issues but it sounded like this was a concern to him.

My bad, I read it as Old Man Emu (OME)

The OEM lift kit should definitely have no issues since it's all Toyota spec.

Is you really want a truck with no issues the best advice is to just not lift it at all, even if the lift is toyota spec that kind of moding opens to door to installer error and other sorts of issues. The real question is how important or do you even need a lifted truck? If your just in it for the looks its probably not really worth it.

Drive line vibration comes from rear end angle and driveshaft angle. So angled shims between the leaf and spring perch on the axle and shims between the carrier bearing and center support will eliminate that. I believe the TRD lift is 1" rear blocks so you shouldn't run into anything back there. Sounds like the dealer is just trying to get out of the install.

No issues with mine on my brand new 2022 nor did the dealer mention any. So far on some pretty rough trails it's performed as it should and I have no complaints.

Go to a different dealer who isn’t ‘nervous’ about installing an OE product . Giant red flag right there.

I have the Bilstein version of the lift and have had zero issues. The whole reason people pay the exorbitant costs of that kit is that it was engineered to ‘drop right in’. It shouldn’t require any extra parts or labor. If this was true, there would be an official TSB from Toyota approving required modifications to the kit as well as labor. Id imagine if you ever needed warranty service on that lift, another dealer wont look kindly on any mods done that are not approved by Toyota.

There are thousands of TRD kits on the road without issues, and hundreds of thousands of the Bilstein 5100 version of the kit . (The TRD kit is made by Bilstein using rebranded 5100’s)

If it’s the true OEM kit they are installing, then this seems like an underhanded upsell attempt to me. I thought the whole point of the OEM lift kit was that it avoided all the potential hassles associated with lifting these trucks.

Yes I think he is trying to kind of get out of it but he was very genuine in saying that there are issues and even though its a Toyota OEM kit it is no slam dunk.

Is it the salesman calling you or the service manager? The salesman has no idea that the hell a TRD lift kit even is.

I would have thanked him for the call, and got a Bilstein 5100 lift somewhere else.

    What Tocamo said.
Only reason to get a OEM lift kit would be if you want to keep all warranty on parts with the dealership imo.
Bilstein, OME, Eibach are all good aftermarket lifts you could do if you are set on having a lift. Have an offroad shop install for you if you aren't inclined to DIY, any of those shops would have 100x more experience than the dealer.

Had the OEM lift kit installed on my 21 in July of 21 and have had zero issues. Have it installed at a different dealer.

lift kit includes a new grill? like for steaks or for the front end? I could be wrong, but I don't recall a kit that had a lift and a gill in it.

TRD lift comes with pro grille. Although I’m sure you can get a TRD branded traeger grill if you really ask the dealer.
