I removed my passenger seat on my 2013 tacoma (trd or).
    The airbag light is on.
Will the airbag for the drivers side deploy in an emergency in this state?

No, when the light is on the system is disabled.

Put the seat back in and the fault should clear and the airbags would return to normal operation.

What if I end up keeping it removed?
Is there a tool I need to buy in order to fix the disabled driver side air bags?

You would need the ocupant classification ECU, seat sensors, a way to fool the sensors into thinking the seat is still there, and the correct value resistor to trick the airbag module into thinking the seat airbag is still there. I guess it could be done with enough thought and engineering but it won't be simple.
Why do you want the seat removed?

Why do you want the airbag to come out if no one is sitting there?

The entire airbag system is disabled if there is a fault present in any part of the system meaning the driver's side will not function either.

What if you took the seat apart and plugged the stuff that should be attached back in? Also what are you doing with the space just out of curiosity?

There is nothing to fix. it isn't broken, I guess if you have the time and skills you could figure a way to trick the ECU using a resistor to simulate the passenger seat being connected. I am not recommending that because you could set off the airbags fooling around and hurt or kill yourself.

Don't fuck with the airbag system. Either let is stay disabled or put the seat back it.

Can I ask why you want to keep the pass seat removed?

So I just need to get those plugs that were on the seat and plug them back in? Then the airbags will work again?

I just want working airbags (even if its just the front driver’s side).

Well I’m not 100% sure on this because I have never tried it but I would think if you plugged everything that’s in the seat back in then cleaned up and hid the wires so it wasn’t in your way with whatever project you are doing the computer probably wouldn’t know the difference.

When I was doing handyman type work a couple years back, I liked to keep the bed space open for lumber, yard waste and bigger items. So I kept all my tools, a big tough box, table saw, and various other power tools in the cab. Plus it's just that much more secure than the bed. To do so though, I too removed the passenger seat. Made things a little easier to get to. I never even noticed whether or not the airbag light came on; good to know that it disables the airbag system.

You guys are bold trying to give this guy half assed suggestions. An air bag can seriously hurt someone if it explodes without warning.

Everyone is worried about airbag deployment by accident. As long as I am not applying voltage to the connectors I should be fine, though, right?
