    @Taco critter

    Did these trucks ever have dual gas tanks?

    Same here; I'd be fine with putting a 1984-1988 body on a 1995-2004 Taco frame though!

    So, @wilcam47 says that the older Toyota trucks had the gas tank on the passenger side. Tacomas obviously have the fuel filler door on the left, so whoever did this swap clearly had to improvise...

    A most unexpected sight in my small southeastern Ohio hometown in March 2021.

    That's one of those Japanese fire trucks! They made Land Cruiser versions too!

    Possible, but I'd have bet a nickel I saw Hilux and diesel badges on that truck when I was alongside it in my Gen 1.

    100% a Nissan, you can tell by looking at the lines of the body...

    OK... let's try this one, which IS a Toyota... Spotted on the innerbelt interstate near my house in Saint Louis, November 2021. Mexico number plates, uncommon for our area. Pity about that rear end collision -- the truck is a long way from any newe sheet metal.

    I saw a 2004 Ford Mondeo with Mexican plates at the Carlisle Ford Nationals (Pennsylvania) two months ago. It's perfectly legal to drive a vehicle registered in Mexico into the states, but you can't legally title and register it here until it's 25 years old.

    Correct. I saw a Mexican plate in central Ohio in June. Another uncommon area for that kind of sighting.

    In San Diego, where I visit often for work and personal, Hiluxes with Mexican plates are almost common. Other stuff that we don't see here, like Renault and Dacia, are also spotted.

    I got pictures of a 1986 Dacia pickup at another Carlisle show in May!
