Just curious, at what mileage did everyone look to get their tune? Outside of the initial "learning" period the transmission is supposed to go through (IIRC like 1500 miles or so) when did people start pulling the trigger?

With my 2018 it was at around 35,000

With my 2022 ASAP under 1700 miles.

I'm pulling the trigger this weekend...have just over 2k miles and the improvement from day 1 has been negligible at best. Can't wait to get this thing tuned!

Don't wait. I got mine at 1800 miles only because my tuner couldn't get to it sooner. The learning does not resolve the problems. It will still settle in again after the tune.

OH. I drive the same. But if I can gain a mpg or 2, it'll all be worth it

My observations at this point is most of customers are reporting gains in MPG. On Average it’s more like 1-1.5 MPG.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Possibly have to go through EPA re-certification? That would be my guess. I'm quite sure that isn't cheap. Then, of course, you'd be admitting your engineers screwed the pooch. As others have stated, the vast majority of buyers don't think it's that much of an issue.

That may be part of it, but as another person noted, they've already issued a few TSBs related to the AT that has moderated some of the shifting issues. I think also that as an engineering team, they are keeping their product well within it's design capability, i.e. hesitating to over-optimize what they don't really have to while the GEN3 remains what they are producing. I imagine numerous changes in GEN4, because that is what will be expected.

Granted, I have made a conscious effort to keep my foot out of it since having it tuned. On a recent trip with a lot of highway driving, I set the cruise at 72MPH instead 80, in town I haven't been running from red light to red light like John Force at the Winter Nationals.
The 21.1MPG mark is certainly not an average but it's a hell of lot better than the 17.5 I was seeing constantly.

I have had three of the third gen Tacomas. I hated the way all of them shifted. I was very upset with Toyota but I have been driving them since 1979. Toyota did not fix the issues because not enough people complain. Without my tune, I would not have kept my current truck. Life is too short. I was very relieved to find out that a tune was available to resolve Toyota's problems.

I don’t normally post about the trucks I tune, but I couldn’t resist with this one. Holy cow! Check out this giant RC car!CA14BDF7-118F-4B2F-A592-A8A218D95562.jpgAC026549-1BBA-416A-9C2B-E35F09613136.jpg

Met @sonhn317 today to get my truck tuned. Did the normal throttle and have to say Im really happy with it. Beating a dead horse here but this is how toyota should have sent it from the factory! Thanks @PapaRee and @TWTaco for this tune and @sonhn317 for stopping out in my area to tune my truck on your way to Chicago for the tuning event! Another happy customer!

I was OV tune but I actually couldn’t tell the difference between stock and OV. Thought maybe I drove too conservative, maybe the shifting was slightly better? Ended up pretty disappointed with it, so I thought all tunes were kind of a sham or all in peoples heads. When Dave saw that I was really disappointed with OV he reached out and asked me to try his tune.

Soon as I pulled out his drive way I could tell right away how much better the truck drove. It just drives so much better now. No more lag, fuel mileage is improved. I’m a believer! Don’t even bother with OV or anything else!
