Need help with Speakers and amp setup

So, I got kickers for the front and rear speakers.

The front are rated at 100W RMS @ 4 ohms
The rear are rated at 150W RMS @ 4 ohms


I am planning on buying a Pioneer 4 channel amp rated for:

• 100W RMS x 4 @ 4Ω
• 120W RMS x 4 @ 2ω
• 125W RMS x 4 @ 1ω

Of course, the rear speakers are under powered. If I buy a 4 channel amp rated at 200W RMS, will this damage the speakers?

I basically want to properly power the rear end speakers, but If I can't, then I'll be okay with under powering them.

Do you guys have any advice on setting this up? I'm currently running the speakers off of the head unit.


Also, what would happen to the stock tweeters if I add an amp? Would it have too much power?

 

First question is which kickers?

The problem with the rear speakers is the head unit signal is weak so you will end up turning the gain for the rear up more.

Just because a speaker says it “takes” up to XXXrms, doesn’t mean you have to. It doesn’t mean that if you don’t put that much power to it, it’ll sound like trash. It’s a “speed limit”, “up to” is fine, more maybe not-so-much.

**edit** Just saw the second part. You are putting 3-way coaxial up front. That’s a pair of woofers, mids and tweeters. Cool. Adding the factory tweeters in that, you’ll have a “screaming” good time. Like, peel your face off, ear peircing highs. What I’m getting at is put the Kickers in, that’s what I have now (brand that is). Disconnect the factory tweeters, it will NOT sound good.

 

how i have it set up: with the tweeters hooked in line with the front door speakers you really want to limit the amount of range that goes to those. i have mine set with a cross over from my Kenwood headunit. a JL sub in the back of the truck more than makes up for the lack of range in the front speakers.

 

I hear you, I have stock tweeters. So, the sound on them are pretty much degraded. But I have them on just because I like to keep the sound stage up towards my shoulder instead of by my feet. I also equalize the highs out so that it's not screaming.

But maybe I should disconnect them to see how it sounds like. Meshing both the new speakers with the old speakers definitely does sound weird. When I installed the speakers, I installed the front speakers first and left the rear as stock and the sound quality was just weird haha

 

Do you know if I can add an external crossover to my existing sound system? 3 way speakers with tweeters

Maybe I can just filter out the highs from the 3 way speakers and just let the highs pass through the tweeters

 

I found a way that worked for me so i can only share my own approach. you can buy inline crossovers for the speakers and try that out.

 

with 3 ways, the majority of the sound will be at your ankle. I would look at a set of components to go up front and that will give you a much better sound stage. Do some minor sound deadening on the front doors and it will be a night an day difference.

What part of the door would you apply sound deadening too? The inside of the door where the window lives or the outside part of the door where the speakers mount to?

 

both. Inside on the larger areas and directly behind the speakers. Also the part that the speakers mount to where you can add some places. Also showing the module so you can bypass parking brake
