Based on my experience with turbocharged gas motors - diesels are different - it will have good MPG on paper and lightly loaded on the highway and likely in the city as well. Loaded down, bucking headwinds, lifted with big tires, or pulling a trailer, it will be on par or worse than the NA V6. If you can drive it and stay out of the boost it will likely return the EPA MPG. This has proven to be true across BMW, Mazda, Ford, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Audi, and Subaru from my personal long term experience. There is something to be said for a load of torque down low from a turbo motor and I would be willing to give up some MPG's for that but I specifically purchased a 2022 V6 because I wasn't interested in the way things seem to be heading with the Tacoma. It's another example of false long term economy to gain 1 or 2 MPG - real or imagined.

My mom has an NX... she avg's 19MPG and she feathers the gas pedal.

Looks like we might gain 1 - 2 MPG, and better low-end torque (naturally), but who's to say Toyota won't jack that up like the current programming on the V6 with the lousy throttle response and shifting logic for the AT's?

    What about a boosted 2.5 or 3.0 I6?

A boosted I6 would be awesome

I've only had my GTI to experience a I4 turbo. It was an amazing little engine in a 3200lb hatch, and could get terrific gas milage off-boost.
I can imagine in a heavy AF Tacoma MPG will be a lot less inspiring, especially towing.

But imagine all the room for crap in the engine bay!

Hope we get a GR Tacoma Reg cab AWD. :spending: :burnrubber:

Sometimes it pays to buy the last production year of an established model. Certainly was the case for our '18 Rav4 hybrid.

The current gen Rav 4 look good, but the last gen look like they are more solid.

My last lyft ride was in a 21 rav4 hybrid and it was trash. I was shocked how loud the interior was, that thick ass bezel fisher price plastic tablet in the center and jerky trans. Only had 23K miles on it.

The nx350 is only slightly lighter than the Tacoma. There is no way the couple hundred lbs accounts for the almost 50% better highway mpg.

The Tacoma has the aerodynamics of a brick. Just watch the way rain water pools and splashes on the hood.

My fear is that they'll need to make the Tacoma ugly to get decent gas mileage.

2nd and 3rd grn Rav 4s are probably the best. I see a lot of hybrid 5th gens, I usually mistake them for gohsts when I hear them floating by
The Cavalry blue gas 5th gens look pretty good

It's literally the same shape. The whole "tough" looking truck the the tundra went to and the 4th gen concept photos only makes this worse.

I was trying to imply the Mitsubishi is so damn ugly because it’s trying to look so aerodynamic

3rd gen window sticker reads 18city/22hwy (V6/4x4). So average is basically city mpg.

If this mystical 4th gen is rated at 20/25, you are looking at maybe a 2mpg increase, no?

But either way, these threads are stupid. I can get 24-25mpg, meanwhile jimbo over there can’t average more than 15mpg. Will be the same for 4th gen.

Really the only reason for a I4 turbo is to meet CAFE standards.

they farmed that out to BMW for the supra if that tells you anything about toyotas interest in developing that style of powerplant.

I just went on a 250 mile trip through mountain passes. Driving 70-80, lift, sliders, winch, front bumper, maxed out payload, RTT on bed rack, and fighting crazy headwinds going back. I averaged 15.8 mpg. Can’t complain at all, I’ve seen 5K+ rpms quite a few times, 4th gear just wasn’t doing it.

Local highways i average 21-22 easily, but I drive much slower.

If the 4th gen engine even remotely resembles the 3rd gen performance and economy we will have a bigger turd than the last.
