I fixed the vibrations from my subwoofer

When I listened to certain music the subwoofer would vibrate the plastic enclosure and the plastic covering behind the rear seats. I removed the removed the plastic panel behind the driver (3 bolts), then the rear seats (6 bolts) and then the large panel passenger's side (1 bolt). This fully exposed the subwoofer cabinet and amplifier. I removed the Subwoofer (5 bolts) and used Fat Mat to coat it everywhere I could. Then I coated the backs of the 2 panels already removed with as much Fat Mat as I could. Then I put it back in the reverse order and it works and sounds so much better. It sounds solid to much higher outputs than it would before.

Hope that helps someone else tame their sub.

Yeah Paul this helps. I notice some localized vibration around my sub only on certain bass notes (high ones), otherwise it sounds great. I'll have to try some insulation.

 

This problem may be different but it would be worth your time to check this thread out. Just recieved my new amp today and no vibration whatsoever!

Thanks man. I read that one earlier. I found that everything sounds good except for some of my burned CDs, which is typical. My ipod sounds great over the system. Plus, the high bass notes just started this vibration which leads me to believe that a gap has occured over the last couple of weeks rocking hard.

 

You have the JBL system right? I noticed too that as the weeks past by I heard more interference. Imo, I would still take it in because now it's a well known prob that toyota has no problem fixing. Also the new amp they installed in my truck yesterday kicks a$$. It bumps harder and overall quality is phenomenal!

 

In that case I'll head to the dealer if there is a quality improvement to be had. Should I just show up with a frown on my face, or is there some leverage I can print out and bring along?

Really, I'm pretty happy with mine. It is kinda weird though: the woofer seems to top out around 40 and has the same output at 60 that it did at 40, but the other speakers progressively get louder all the way up. I am a little disappointed that I'm hearing something vibrating around the sub (sounds like plastic on plastic) already, considering the truck has less than 1k on it. Hopefully the replacement amp and some insulation will end any secondary sounds.

I too laughed at the sight of the woofer the first time I saw it, with the little blue light on it, but now it's grown on me and I think it is pretty cool. Sorta strange that the light is blue, considering that it is the only blue thing on my truck...

Oh, and I have to get a new stereo too. My volume and tuner knobs periodically don't work?!!

As for the automatic volume changing, make sure to set VSM (or something like that in the menu) to OFF, it's something that is designed to increase the volume the faster you go, quietest when stopped.

 

So I got the ball rolling at my dealer regarding the new amp. After messing with the stereo, fading completely to just the rear speakers, I did notice that the 2 smaller speakers do sound "scratchy" compared to the front 2, and something is still vibrating near the woofer. Luckily I had enough information from this forum to dispell any theorys the service guys could think of and just get to the point of getting in the new amp to see if it in fact corrects the problems.

They are going to "take a look" tomorrow morning when their rep is in, and then hopefully order the new amp. Luckily my salesman previously worked in car audio, so he's pushing for the new amp too. Fingers crossed.
