Hey there - I’m in Tucson and I’m waiting for my first Tacoma to be delivered. I had a deposit on a Barcelona Red longbed that was built but is stuck mysteriously at the port for months now. The dealer has no explanation and no ETA so they allowed me to put a hold on a second truck. This one is an Army Green short bed. They’re both AT 4x4 Off-Road V6 with the same packages. Only differences are bed length and paint color.

It’s looking like I’ll end up with the Army Green truck. My issue is I’ve never seen the Army Green color in person. Dealer never has any and I’ve been scanning the streets and parking lots but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas where in Tucson I might have a chance to scope the Army Green color in person?

Weird question maybe. But it feels weird to have never seen it in real life. I feel like the Tacoma paint colors can look really different in person. Like I didn’t think I liked Lunar Rock at all, but then I saw it in person and it had a depth to it that looked awesome.

Anyway. Thanks for any ideas or insight about the color.

it’s prob green. Like the green the Army uses. But shiny-ish…until it peels off.

I was waiting for an order on a White TRD Pro. I got a call from the dealer when a Army Green came on the lot and was ready to go. I was hesitant at first after seeing it in pictures. It looks amazing in person, pictures don’t do it justice.

Here’s is mine before and after adding the blackout emblem kit and the OEM Predator step bars.

That is super helpful to hear, thank you. I’m feeling that same hesitation you were. Buying this truck has definitely been a unique experience, with all the supply chain issues. Never imagined I’d be awaiting delivery of a truck in a color I’d never seen! Just gotta trust it’ll look good in person. Yours is looking real good with the blackout and those steps.

Ahaha, awesome! Hope life is treating you well. I’m finding out that the Tacoma world is just as addicting, and even more expensive as golf and equipment.

Yeah steps look great but aren’t very practical for off roading, they reduce the clearance a bit. They are there for the family right now, young kids and short wife, ;-). Once I get the suspension/lift I want I’m going to add some rock sliders from Wescott Designs.

I am curious how your truck is stuck at the "port". Tacomas are assembled in Mexico.

I get what you’re saying. In my understanding the word “port” has become more of a broad term for a central distribution/shipping point that the vehicles go to after the factory. Sometimes it’s a port on land, other times it is a sea port. Then from the port they are then shipped to the individual dealers.

If coming from the Baja factory, they use a Long Beach rail port. (Where my originally ordered truck is stuck.) Or if they’re coming from the Guanajuato factory, some will come on rail through Laredo, but the majority of shipments into the U.S. will be by short sea, leaving from Veracruz port (Gulf Coast) and Lázaro Cárdenas port (Pacific).

At least that’s my sense of it - guess I’ve learned a lot in this months-long limbo lol

What suspensions/lift are you getting? Ah yeah that makes sense about the steps. I’m looking at a siderail instead of steps, since like you said steps lower the clearance a bit. I’m still pretty new to off-roading so going to start slow and see what the stock truck can do and go from there. I’m not a big adrenaline guy; I mostly like to take forest service roads and bumpy poorly maintained dirt roads to get to good camping or stargazing spots. Really excited to do all that in a Tacoma.

I'm looking at a couple options right now.

    Icon Stage 2 Suspension System.

ARB Old Man Emu 3" Medium Load.

4 Wheel Parts looks like the shop I am going to go through.

I am just trying to figure out how I am going to fully use my truck. I'm looking at camping/weekend trail use/exploring, medium type of difficulty trials, not looking at rock climbing or anything crazy like that. Overlanding looks pretty awesome as well but the amount of money that goes into those set ups will add up real quick and not exactly what I am looking at. I had a pop up tent trailer in the past that I loved and can see myself going back to that type of camping again. Heck, even setting up tents again would be fine by me.

I relate to this - figuring out how you’re going to fully use your truck. That’s part of why I’m torn between the Barcelona Red longbed and the Army Green shortbed. Day to day in the city, driving around and parking, the maneuverability of a shortbed would be so nice. But thinking about weekend explorations - camping, road trips, maybe towing a lightweight camper, I could see the longbed coming in handy. But none of those things really require the extra foot of bed length.

I do think I would need to get the longbed lifted cause to me they look too long and strange when they’re stock, whereas the shortbed I could just leave as-is, at least for a while. Anyway thinking out loud… :)

What pop up tent trailer did you have before? I’ve started looking into different setups and am considering that option among others.

Seeing your pic of your AG truck helped. And I can believe it looks better in person than pictures, as I think most Tacoma colors do. I’m not an Army guy, or a hunter, which is kind of what I associate with the AG name/color. And it seems like such a statement color. Just thinking through whether it’ll feel like “me” if that makes sense - hard to do when I haven’t seen it in person lol. Guess we’ll see which of these two trucks shows up first and which one feels right. It’s such a big purchase, I want to make sure I’m really happy with it.
