I really like the multicolored brick work on your place. Hope you never plan to paint over that.

Painting brick sounds like a terrible idea. I know people do it, but it doesn't make any sense.

Its the trend that all the millennial house flippers are doing. White brick is a must.

I think it has its place, over just a standard red brick, sure. But anything with character like @Delta09's place, no way. My masonry guy told me my brick would be very expensive to replace as its a vertically grooved "burnt" as he described brick, and to keep it looking good.

No that brick will never be painted. Now, the cinder block on that back portion now that it's exposed will. I still have a gallon of the paint I used for the garage siding I'll use. It's quality paint (Benjamin Moore) that will hold up. Just need to pick up some primer.

Perhaps after hearing about the front stairs and seeing that it wasn’t so bad, he just shot out something so you knew you’d decline because he didn’t want to have the same issues with you after his work was completed.

The only thing worse than some contractors is the price of lumber.

Anyone got one of these thermostats that can school me on it?

    PXL_20220803_074715287.jpg

The manual is completely useless it's two pages that basically say download the app, and the app is not a manual.

So my issue is the AC I just had installed a month ago was working just dandy all day and suddenly it's getting hot in the game room, real hot: 90°F!

A little warm is expected, my PC puts out quite a bit of heat but it usually doesn't get over 4-5°F what my AC is set to even under the worst loads.

But it got hot today, came out of the room and the house felt a little warm too, checked the thermostat and it said it was 81°F!! the "Cool On" in the top left corner was flashing, best I could find through Google is this means "Delay On" 5 minute wait for short cycle prevention but that doesn't make sense; the AC would have had to been completely off for at least 1-2hours minimum for the house to be 81°F and the room to be 90°F not 5 minutes!?

I checked the breakers and everything looked good but cycled the AC breaker anyway, no change, called the folks who installed it's emergency repair line, they didn't answer, naturally...

I left a voicemail, screamed "WHAT THE FUCK" and apparently that was the magic words because the AC suddenly kicked in again it's cooling now and I'm completely at a loss as to what could have caused it to act up like this.

    :annoyed:

Did you try replacing the batteries?

I've heard utility companies can raise your temps a few degrees with "smart thermostats" when demand is high to offset that demand, but the consumer is supposed to be able to override it by immediately turning the thermostat down. I've got a different Honeywell thermostat and I get that delay after shutting it off to swap filters/UV bulbs and then turning it back on. Something to do with the compressor catching up with the rest of the system I think?

I don't know much else about hvac other than keeping the filters and coils cleaned. :notsure:

I didn't think it had batteries, and I set up the wifi on my own network, the utility company shouldn't have any control over it, been actually thinking about disabling the wifi, I'm not really a IOT kinda person.

    I've got a Mitsubishi system but it's not mini-splits.

I still haven't seen my first power bill with this installed but it has got to be better than when I had the original 25+ year old system.
