I would grow beefsteaks quite often in years gone by because of the size... a single slice to cover a sandwich... but I don't get really big ones anymore. Pretty much average sized tomatoes nowadays. I have an Early Girl and it has the most fruit of the varieties I have... except for a cherry. But even the cherry seems to have less fruit than I'd expect. The rest of my garden is doing fine, by the way.

We got a late start this year except for the tomatoes.

I did have a hybrid squash that was healthy one day and dead the next. That was kind of odd. We'd found some squash bugs a few weeks before so were hand inspecting and killing them and eggs. Don't seem to have any now for at least a week. Wish I knew a better way of dealing with the little bastards...

    Morning
    Hot today
    Dangerous heat and humidity tomorrow
Been talking about it all week.
Local TW friends please be careful.

Spooled up 3 new fishing rods yesterday.
Starting to go with a combination of spinning, baitcaster, and spincast.
Also Loading mono on the spinning reels instead of using my normal spider wire.
Even though there are 100’s of vids on it I can cast mono further on these reels
than wire. Trying to be more rod and situation specific.
I need to get rid of a few rods I don’t need/use anymore.
Still haven’t pulled the fly rods out to use this year.
    I’m such a a bad fisherman :pout:.

Weather has been so fickle I can’t plan promised fishing trips.

So, what’s up on hump day people?

I believe most of the blades these days are carbon fiber for light weight and strength.

I have had decent sucess with Bonnie Bell plants from either Lowes or HD.

TY for all the suggestions on the tomatoes.

Today is a music lesson and shopping at two grocery stores. Not a busy day at all.

I hope the President signs the Bill today that will allow our Desert Storm and Afghanistan vets to be treated for health issues associated with burn pits. It really saddens me that our current veterans face the same struggles with treatment that we did with Agent Orange.

Good Morning Crew, another hot and humid day here in FL. I like it better than the “dry heat” of AZ though. Getting another Florida haircut (wicked short) this morning then swimming pool this afternoon. I love being retired . Have a great day y’all and stay safe.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! Maybe I accomplish something today!

I've also noticed less and less production from store veggies. Most come from Lowe's. I can blame some of it on the greenhouse changes, but the tomatoes were all outside potted this year. We had some cherry and grape produce. In the greenhouse, the peppers took off and have started to produce when I moved them to the South side, but still nowhere near what I used to get. Was disappointed when the wind blew over my Orange Bell, and broke the stem with 3 nice youngsters on it. Of course, all this may have something to do with all the temps over 100*!

Yeah... I've wondered about the early extreme heat too. June has been like late July for the last few years, and this year late July was reasonably cool and you can see the plants like it.

    Good morning all!

Tom those tomatoes look like heirlooms, no doubt they’re delicious! I love good tomatoes, and tomatoes and cucumbers cut up in a bowl with a little vinegar is a favorite of mine. Also on BLTs, Ham sandwich with cheese and tomato with mayo. Also love sliced tomatoes with bacon or sausage and eggs for breakfast.
Your recipe for mixed fresh vegetable side dish sounds great!

Good morning all. Another day happy to wake up on the top side of the grass. I hope you all have a satisfying and productive day.

Today I'm working on buying all my older technology equipment that has been issued to me before I retire. I would like to buy my iPhone, iPad, laptop, and color printer. It's all old in technology terms and they would never reissue it. I can buy it all on state surplus which it would go to anyway.

I'm with you. I got my pumpkins in a little late this year because we had some later frost than normal. I wonder if I'll have any decent size ones before Halloween.

All y'all talking about tomatoes are killing me; I need to find a good farm stand and make a good BLT, STAT!

Here's a shot of a BL(A)T (with avocado) I took a few years ago on some nice black sourdough pumpernickel:

I've always been curious why an experienced fisherman would even consider a spincaster.

A very special thing I do. There is no drag at all when casting or flipping.
I use extremely light weight stuff sometimes and any drag at all will stop it.
And I can stop the line in a split second.
14# test line. 7’ med heavy rod.
Never lost a fish from mechanical failure.
Just how I’ve been doing it since. Like forever lol

Spincast reel is what I grew up using, never got the control I wanted using an open face, probably just lack of practice with it. I can put a lure where I want with a spincaster. Spincaster and baitcaster pretty much all I use, whether fishing for bonefish in the florida keys or smallmouth, pike in Canada or trolling on a lake or the ocean. It’s what Im best with and will hold my own against those using fly rods, open face, etc lol.

    Afternoon all:
I used a spincast reel for years when fishing small streams for trout, I still prefer it for accurate casting. Like anything, there are spincast reels, and then there are spincast reels, my preference is the Johnson Sabra and I have a stash of them!

OK, on to plan C, 4 rat traps were sprung, and the bear was in the pond again. I did manage to catch something though, a frog :(! I think that bear is thinking :brianr: to me!!! :annoyed:

I put 3 tomato plants in once years ago and got so many tomatoes I could not even give them all away. I wound up with a ton of green tomatoes. Someone told me that if you put them in a brown paper bag, and put the bag in a dark place, they will keep for a long time.

    I did.

    They did.

They were still green too. I made fried green tomatoes out of a few and finally tossed the rest.

Have you tried one of those motion sensor animal deterrent devices? Not sure if it would end up annoying you or neighbors if any are close by.

    Evening all:
From what I'm reading, it looks like that device is not effective for larger animals.
Been looking at flash bang setups, that possibly may work.

I reset the tripped traps and straightened out the pipe, then did some pruning along the edge of the yard. When I went back into the house, I looked out the front window and it looked like the pond had dropped even lower, WTH, took a closer look and the pipe was pushed over again, the sucker was back! :annoyed:
