yea, best bet would be insurance or a claim with the city. "I didn't know it was that deep" or "it was night I couldn't see it" or " it wasn't that deep, it was a freak thing".
Everywhere I've lived (in the US) if the street breaks your car the city will pay for your deductible if not the whole repair.
In this case, bad drainage could be called the problem. But good chance for "act of god" defense.

kinda silly from a tax payers point of view, but the laws are out there.

Well, I've also only lived in and around larger cities ... didn't catch where you were. Doubt small municipalities that can't afford drainage can afford to fix peoples cars.

Good excuse for a snorkel hey everyone? "Well this one guy just went through a puddle so...."

Wasn't speeding cause it was a parking lot but I was going over 10mph and ya had the cover on and everything. Part of the fender liner is missing but I bought it that way from the dealership. I think that's how so
    much water got in.

Just, if you end up paying for it. Make sure you shop used/rebuilt engines before they start quoting you 5 grand or some crazy number to fix it.

How would I go about getting the city to pay for my deductible? And the drainage us really terrible there. I saw another truck drive through it and his stalled too but he was able to get it going again. And I live in temecula. Probably close to 200,000 people in the city.

You can see it if you look from the front and wedge your head in there but that's how it was when I bought it from the dealership.

That's what I was hoping. I would think that they would make a record of the cars appearance when they get a trade in since I bought it used.

Hahaha maybe. Now the real question is: do I put the stock intake back on and button up everything(put spark plugs in, coilpack, tube, ect.) or leave the TRD intake on and button it back up and take it to the dealer?

No but I turned the engine over by hand and it gets stuck in one spot.

is this AFTER pulling the plugs and getting the water out? is so, I would look for a bent rod

Good luck with it!! I submerged an old Nissan (by Datsun) way back when. After is stalled, I got it towed home, pulled the plugs, turned it over a bunch, changed the oil, all was well. The whole motor was under water. (Long story).

Hope you're as lucky as I was!

Ya it was stuck after pulling the plugs. Did some more checking. I think I might have broken a connecting rod because the engine turns over by hand and when I get to the spot where it gets stuck if I turn it back the other way a couple of times I can get it past that part but the piston isn't moving up and down like normal. I got it to go up but not back down. That's why I think it's broken. But ya that piece if fender liner was missing when I bought it.

Called my insurance company and they're gonna tow it to an inspection facility and find out what's wrong with it. Should I leave the plugs, coils, intake ect off or put them all back on and in?

At the very least, shouldn't your insurance cover it?? It's not like you were driving around like a mad man through the lake or something. You were just driving to get food. I would take it to the dealer and if it's not covered by warranty, call you insurance company.

    Good luck!!

Ya man that's what I'm not sure about. I think I'll just leave the TRD intake in and see what the dealer says. Cause if the fender liner was intact the CAI shouldn't be a problem unless I submerged it which I didn't do.

I called my insurance company and they're scheduling to take to an approved inspection facility and I'll see what they say. If possible I'll try and get the dealer to work with me since the fender liner is most likely the culprit and was half missing when I purchased it. I'm hoping for the best outcome even if I have to pay my deductible. That to me is a lot better than paying for it outta pocket.
