i am wondering if a 12' kicker L7 will fit behind the seat of a doublecab?

 

Unfortunaely it will not dude depth and "cross beam" in the truck. You need to be looking for a 10" driver with 6" or less mounting depth.

What does the name "driver" refer to? Could I just use a good old 10" sub as long as it has less than 6" depth?

 

A driver is a transducer that converts electrical energy to sound otherwise known as a subwoofer, midrange, tweeter etc. Also, a 6" deep sub will only fit behind the rear seat of a double cab if it has a really tiny magnet or a magnet that is steeply tapered at the bottom.

(I promise I'll finish that thread ASAP! ) If you check the Tacoma sub albums on the top left at the photobucket link in my signature below you will see numerous designs I have. The least intrusive simple design that requires very little mods to your truck would be the "short" version and it also allows you to use your child seat tethers if needed.

 

Marv, I understand that for my doublecab doors I can use 5 1/4 to 6 1/2 inch speakers correct? Is the baffle size dependent on the size of speaker I chose? How much would it cost for you to send me four baffles and a sub box?

 

Yes you can use 5 1/4's or 6 1/2's in the double cab doors with the correct baffle/adapter. I custom make each set to make sure you get the correct fit and since all speakers are not created equal (even if they are "marked" the same size) I would need to know the make/model/size you would be using. Same goes for the subwoofer so I'd need to know the make/model of that as well as which enclsoure model you'd like. Please give me a call at the number below or PM me with that info and I'll get a cost for you (if you don't have the speakers/sub yet and need suggestions I can help you with that as well).

 

hey marv, what do you think of the 10" 4ohm Alpine Type-R's? im thinking of getting a pair from a guy thats got 6 months use on em for $150. should i do it? Thanks

 

In the proper enclosure of course those are nice sounding subs IMO (I have found they definitely perform better in the larger size recommended enclosure) and for that price I think it's a pretty good deal as long as they are in good condition.

 

How many CF for each one in a sealed box then? Thanks again.

On your "shorty" version, what size sub does that fit? What sub would you recommend for that setup?

Lastly do you know if the factory JBL housing will snap over that?

I got some Shallow Mount Fosgate P3s 10 inchers in my DC and it sounds SWEET!!

 

I've read some good reviews about the Alpine SWS-1023D as well.

 

The shorty version will fit up to a 10" sub and sub choice would depend on your objectives, power available, budget and which side you want the enclosure to fit on. On the drivers side you will be more limited in sub choice since there is not as much airspace available and I have found that the Pioneer shallow mount with a bit of polyfill works very well in that space. On the passenger side your options open up quite a bit as there is much more airspace available. Unfortunately I am not sure if the factory JBL housing will fit over it since I have not had the opportunity to have that one available (if anybody happens to have one and is near me I'd love to have you come by so I could check it out )

I would defiantly put it on the passenger side behind the seat. I have a Little Wonder that is about 5 years old. It is a 2-channel amp, so I'm guessing I would want to run a 4-ohm dual voicecoil sub and wire it in as 2-ohm. Your thoughts?

Any thoughts on a good 10" to fit in there?

As you know my two objectives are keeping the cost down and retaining a stock look. You just have too many options Marv - I mean that in a good way!
