Has anyone tried upgrading the cameras that provide the visuals for the 360 camera? The quality is really awful and I'm undecided if it's the head unit or the cameras.

Tried searchin' but the forum search is rough.

Interesting idea, most of us just write it off as Toyota being Toyota by choosing the old, tried and true parts, or more likely they are tied in with some long term contracts with suppliers who make those really crappy camera.

yes, they're awful. lots of people feel the same way and the later model years are actually worse than the earliest 3rd gens according to some. it appears they decided to skimp on the cameras at some point.

most of the threads on the subject raise the question of whether it's the cameras themselves or the head unit bandwidth that might be degrading the image. to my knowledge, no one has actually tested this by fitting a known good camera to see what kind of image gets through.

Interesting. This guy on Reddit added a 360 camera to a third gen that didn't have one and correctly calibrated etc. The quality they get in their video is leagues better than my '22 with the 360 option. I might try replacing the cameras with what that person bought and see how it goes...

All aftermarket cameras look better, its just the nature of the beast. Toyota has to make a product that is durable and can be produced at their standards.

All Toyotas even the new tundra has sucky 360. It's just how it is.

And doesn't cost very much, obviously. ;) My Volvo's 360 camera looks like an IMAX movie in comparison.

I'll pull one of the mirror cams and check the specs to see if I can find a replacement. Looks like there's plenty of docs on how to recalibrate it.

er, it's just the equipment they're using. shitty cameras aren't inherently more durable.

There are 6 wires to each camera. B, V+, V-, Ground, CANH, & CANL. I don't think throwing in an aftermarket camera would work.

I recently added the anytime backup camera mod with a front camera and the front camera is in fact much cleaner view than the OEM rear one. My vote says its a combo of the radio and camera, but more so the cameras.
