I’m not… and pretty sure you’re posting this on another dude’s thread about his motor blowing up at 61k miles.

My last one a 2018 had a failed compression test after throwing a check engine light and codes.

They changed head and exhaust valve and all related seals and parts on one side. Pulled engine and had truck 30 days to the day ( I think they wanted it out by that 30 day mark for a reason).

When picking it up I had no AC so after two more hours waiting I made my mind up to sell or trade while the market was hot. I bought a 2022.

I believe this is a lot bigger than what some think. We are a small forum where people come to complain and if you do a search you’ll see there’s been a trend with this. What about those not reporting on forums and social media?

It's never inappropriate for a good customer that has been bringing in their car for service on a regular basis to ask for a "Goodwill" gesture for an extreme repair such as that being discussed. Two things can work in a customer's favor: 1). Being polite, positive, and addressing a representative who can make the customer-centric decision, and 2). Being an informed consumer. One doesn't need to be a jerk or a lay-down. A cracked cylinder at 60K on an engine that is proven and properly maintained is odd, and may speak to a defect in materials, manufacture, sourcing, assembly, or other. Likely the OEM is tracking such issues.

I believe it's a bigger issue as well. Though I get shut down on this forum for bringing it up. It may be a small number that have engine issues, but it's happening and it should be investigated as to what and why. Weak heads? Weak valves? Valve seats?

With 04-07 or so hemi 5.7 motors the heads were dropping valves. They found the steel valve seat was expanding and contracting at different rates than the aluminum head. They were failing often enough that some owners went as far as replacing the valve seats to prevent catastrophic engine failure.

Of course you can bring it up, it’s good to know this info.

But when you say things like “3rd gens are dropping like flies” or “3.5s are popping everywhere”, which is completely not true so of course folks will say something.

sounds shady smells shady must be shady..... maybe it was showing up when they had it maybe not- it should have shown up on their inspections. but the issue is trying to prove it....they should take care of it for occurring so close to the warranty but they may be pricks good luck man

How do they know it’s cracked without a leak down test? I guess they used a scope?

Well I would too man, trust me. I love my freaking truck.

So far I’ve seen 5-6? 3rd gens with blown engines on TW. I’ve been on TW since 2019. Also, I’m in BC 3rd gen Tacoma group and nobody is having these issues. There is definitely an issue, but I would say it’s like 1 in 10000?

Take radiator cap off. Start engine. check for bubbles in radiator. Maybe coolant mixing with oil.

I hope that was a dumb and dumber reference. I used it in a topic at work earlier today.

Couldn’t that just be a cracked head? That would be much nicer. That makes sense though.

You’re implying that Dave is exaggerating the significance of his observations, but then you’re literally misquoting him by adding words he didn’t type.

He’s noticed a few grenaded engines. He said so. He also said he’s seen something similar in other Toyota models recently. He didn’t say anything else, unless it was in another thread. It was just anecdotal. So why jump on the guy and be so obviously irritated by his statements? It’s a Tacoma forum. He’s sharing info. That’s a pretty forum-ish thing to do, I’d say.

Sure, as long as the crack is in a place where combustion chamber pressure is going into the cooling system.

    I quoted his exact words.

Yes, forums are for sharing info, no question about it. It’s just why would you always come in threads like these and throw mud at the trucks we like?

3rd gens are dropping like flies? Like wtf haha
