Hi there HellRazur. I didn't scour the whole thread so I don't know the year of the Tacoma from which you removed your mudflaps, BUT I am looking for a front driverside mudflap for my 2004 Tacoma 4x4 Double cab......are you interested in selling any of yours?...that front left one in particular??? And if so what might you charge?

    Thanks
    Pete

I have a set of 16” steel wheels off of a 2022 base 2wd 2.7L Tacoma I’m wanting to mount a set of 255/85/16 Toyo M/T on my 2022 Tacoma double cab limited 4x4. I’m asking everyone if the backspacing is correct on the base wheels to allow this setup to work out. Thanks in advance for the input!

I'm wondering the same thing. I have an SR5 with the black "tad bit fancier" wheels. Not sure what they call them.

Just put on some Falken Wildpeak M/T's. 255/85 r16. I'll have to remove the front flaps but was going to anyway. TRD OR, bone stock.

That looks Saweet! Is the stock steel wheels the same offset as those alloy wheels? I would guess what you have is stock wheels if I had to guess the stock wheels alloy or steel would be the same offset. I didn’t say I assume! I just don’t know and fishing for answers before I start moving 4 sets of tires and wheels around to make it come together

Thank man, I think so but don't hold me to that. As others have said, it's a tight fit so I'm looking forward to flexing a little on the trail. So far I've been shocked by the lack of hum with the Falkens. Naturally they'll get louder with wear but my 265/75 General X3's from my last Tacoma were wayyyy louder.

Fellow skinny buyers, I could use some recommendations. I am looking to replace my 265/75/16s probably with 235/85/16s. I am not sure how I would like the larger size of 255s or 33" tires with my stock 4.10 gears. I am not wanting to regear lol.

The main reason for this switch is to get rid of some mild yet annoying and unwanted vibrations that are 100% the tires since the vibes disappear with the tires in specific locations. It's not air pressure and they have been balanced a few times and I just don't want to mess with them anymore. Additionally, like @jbrandt used to deal with, they rub at full lock at the back sides of the frame. I can avoid this 90-95% of the time but it's a backspacing issue with the 3rd gen factory wheels coupled with my tire profile. Hindsight... these tires are only about a 1.5 years old and in great shape otherwise w/ ~12,000 miles.

For those reasons I am considering getting new wheels and tires mounted together with a quality road force balance. Ideally I would then pick them up and self install to make sure they're put on the truck correctly and not all willy nilly.

So, recommendations..? My travels do not require gnarly tires but a quality AT suits me well. I don't mind paying more for quality but I know the current stock levels are probably very limited. Other info, I have never had a flat with load range E so I'm wanting to stick with those if I can. And I need to replace the factory spare that I've never needed, but it needs to be the right size just in case.... If I have to beat the piss out of the spare tire braces to fit a larger tire I can do that.

Pics of the truck and my polished frame from that annoying rub. Thanks for reading and any recommendations on wheels and tires. @Kwikvette I remember you're a skinny fan. What say you?

I run 235/85/16 e rated duatracs on stock rims on my 21 OR. Ran the same on my 2nd gen but with steel wheels. Have the same size on my 97 Hilux

Similar reasons to you, don't tax the stock gearing and secondly, widely available.

You know, you tagged me earlier and I forgot to get back to you!

I'm going to give you 2 answers, but the first is really the one I suggest for you.

I ran 235/85/16's on my Tacoma, and like you, it was also a Prerunner.

I drove it everyday, way more than the other 2 cars I had at the time, and I thoroughly enjoyed it even though they were E-rated. In fact, I would only go E-rated if I ever got an A/T or M/T because...why not? Those that complain about how "stiff" they are need to learn how to perform a chalk test and set their tire pressure accordingly.

I drove that Tacoma everywhere, and even wheeled plenty with it too! I dare say I had taken that turd through the mud plenty of times, just had to make sure I didn't let off the throttle so I didn't sink.

I had a great experience with Falken Wildpeak 3 season A/T's. They're cheap (in my opinion), balanced well, and wore in pretty damn nicely even though I wasn't always rotating them as often as I should've. I never had rubbing issues but I also did run factory offset wheels first with Tacoma wheels and later 4Runner wheels. And paired with the 4.10 gears I had? I think it was a combination meant to be.

    20200212_110917.jpg

    20200322_125640.jpg

Now my other suggestion would be to run 255/85/16s. I ran them on my 4Runner and god damn, they made it look good!

Unfortunately, running those tires on a Tacoma isn't as quick and easy as it is on the 4Runner. Even though the suspension is 99% identical up front, the wheels sit a tad more forward on the 4R than they do on a Tacoma.

Easy fix for you guys though as you just have to take care of the pinch weld.

I also didn't notice a change in "sound" really, even though there was more contact on the road, but that could be attributed to the tires I ran. I had Cooper ST Maxx.

Like the Tacoma, I drove the 4Runner everywhere...but being 4x4 I pushed that thing a lot further and drove it in snow, mud, sand, dirt, rock, you name it. My only gripe is they were a good deal heavier than the skinnier 32's...only an issue if you have a really bad back like I do. But now that I think about it, they really weren't all that heavy to begin with. Maybe I'm just confusing them for the now 285/70/17 that I run on the Land Cruiser.

The 4Runner did have 4.30's if that accounts for anything, but I doubt it did much to help the slightly larger tires over 4.10's and 32's.

Anyway in short, if you're ok with doing the pinch weld mod, and lugging around a heavier tire as well as paying a bit more, then just go for the 33's. It'll really change the look of your rig.

Well shoot I’m confused. If the first option is the one you suggest for me, that sounds like the smaller of the two choices. That’s also the size I was leaning towards.

I’m not against going to town on the pinch weld for 33s but I enjoy the driving characteristics of the size tire I have now which as I’m sure you know is already a tad larger than stock. I’m used to the speedo being off a bit now too. The 235/85s would probably be a similar feel if not likely better. That sounds like what you experienced from what I gathered. While I don’t mind spending more for the 33s the possible risks of the truck feeling slower and whatever other drawbacks come with that size don’t entice me.

Did I misunderstand any of that?

Nope, no misunderstanding on either end!

I don't see any risk of "the truck feeling slower" unless you went to say, 35's.

I guess I could say 35's on my vehicle would be the equivalent to 33's on yours really.

Quite a bit larger than stock, and enough to throw your speedometer off that after a short bit you finally get used to it....but still ask "am I really going 76 mph even though the needle is at 69-70?"

I'm on 33's and when I'm going 66 mph I'm actually at 70. But I did have 35's on the Land Cruiser before putting on new tires.

    I'm on 4.10's as well.

    So...Falken's in 33's?

I've been happy so far with the Falken's, Toyo Open Country III's I'm running, Cooper ST Maxx, and Cooper STT Pro.

Just don't go buying yourself Kbro2's or else I'll have to put you on ignore :burp:

I guess I was siding more with 32's cause I wasn't sure what all you considered to be a big deal, or a small deal, as far as trying to make them fit.

Solid copy, KO2s were not a contender. ST maxx was, Toyos, and the usual trusted suspects.

To be honest the vast majority of the dings and scrapes on this truck were from the 1st owner. Legit dude - fighter pilot in nam with a few planes he shot down. Had vanity tags on when I bought it SLVRHRT I think. His call sign was Silver Hornet. Anyhow, he allowed it to rack up a few beauty marks. I’m not aiming to keep her pretty, just functionally solid and not a rust bucket.
