The SRC brackets aren't technically crash bars. They say that the only way to mount crash bars is to attach to the headlight stay and it's too weak to handle a crash, plus the handlebars usually keep the upper plastics off the ground. So they made an engine guard/skid plate that works with barkbusters to not need the crashbars......that said, Outback Mototrek has crashbars that appear to be able to take a good hit.

I have actually tried to see if the Mototrek bars would work with the SRC enigine guard....but haven't found anything. I think they both use the same mounting point behind the front tire though.

ya those are nice! and i know majority of the time the handle bars are there to stop it getting hit but as someone who has crashed the bike and bent the bracket for the radiator i wish i had some type of guard haha

At this point, I'm gonna go with the SRC engine guard/skid plate and hope the fog light brackets will help just enough  Although, I do love the Mototrek crashbars :D

Plus, I've already wasted $100 on the fog brackets

I just put a deposit on another bike yesterday. Im chilling for the rest of this week at least!
Ill try the MABDR, but after watching the video, seems kinda easy, like the roads that I find myself on. The NEBDR looks more fun, and the small town aspect is really cool.

I need to train for like 5-600 miles in a day, so I can ride out to Glacier NP in August 2023 for my friends wedding, and then go through Utah and go over to San Jose CA to visit my brother in grad school.

    None... yet.
    Harsh!

A little too pricey... my ceiling, without financing, was 6-6.5k. Now, if I can just figure out how I went from one indicator not working to... none of them working. Also, the foot brake no longer activates the brake light... oh, man.

On the positive side, there is plenty of maintenance to do in the meantime...

12 year old coolant anyone? If you squint reaaaaal hard, you might be able to tell it was green at some point.

    IMG_2247.jpg

Took 6 fill and drains to get it clear!

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
If valves met piston, depending on how heavy the contact appears, you may want to replace the rod bearing. I think it would take a pretty substantial hit to flatspot the bearing (or even bend/crack a rod). A close examination of the piston wouldn't hurt either.

Years ago, I raced air-cooled VW's. I had a valve issue. I didn't replace the rod or bearing. I wound up with a broken rod (and a lot of other brokens). Not sure if the bearing spun or if the rod had been cracked. Ultimately, it didn't matter, the damage was done. Live and learn.

No training needed, just get on the bike early Saturday morning and go knock out a 1000 mile day. Toss a water bottle and some advil in the tank bag and get riding.
