    Good evening friends! I got a bit of work done on the deck stairs. I needed to get them temporarily hung so that I can mark off post locations at the bottom for anchors and hand railings, plus see how much grading that I will need to do. It's going to be a bit more then I was hoping, but it needs to get done. I'm thinking about a box to hold pea gravel to bring the grade up to the bottom of the stringers, basically a gravel landing.



    The stairs used to touch the foundation, I hated that so I moved them over about 12", just enough for a handrail post on that side. I also made them wider, they used to be 36" now I have them set for a 48" tread width.

    I don't know what the index was here today, but I can tell you it was hotter than hell. I spent the day outside prepping my Aunt Shiley's deck for painting. I didn't get nearly as much done as planned and had to take several breaks to keep from overheating. At least until the thunderstorm blew through late afternoon, and temperatures dropped 30+* in about 15 minutes. The temperatures were much more palatable after that.

    Looks good, I wish I had thought of supporting the bottom of the stringers like that. I poured the concrete footer first and then cut the stringers. Your method looks a lot easier. I did increase the number of steps on my stairs so the rise wasn't so high for senior folks to climb.
