I got out my asking hammer and slammed a couple beers.

    It came off.

I don't see any corrosion or damage to speak of. That second shot looks dark in the grooves but it's just shadow. I guess they were just having one of those days at the factory where the hi-los met up on the tolerances.

Be careful when you press the new u joints in. I cracked where the c clip groove is when I did mine and had to buy a new drive shaft. Others have had the same problem.

Great news dog gets to keep her leg! Surgery Friday but ouch will the wallet hurt. In other good news today I learned I didn't blow my speaker and it was a speaker connector that had broken. On the bad side I broke a snap o. The passenger door controls......I'll try some super glue.

Replacement trailer - 6000 lb gvwr, 16 ft car hauler. Brakes on both axles, really nice ramps, weighs about 1760 as it sits, so figure 4200 lb payload once I add a small toolbox for tie downs.

I am considering adding a few D rings to the deck for more tie down locations, particularly near the fenders where there aren't any stake pockets.

Thanks. The U joints came out no problem - I have a fuckoff big screw press and the eye doesn't press the thin part.

    Nice! Well done
At some point, you press the joint in, install the clip then press the cap on the other side. You have to press the cap in so you can install the circlip but you’re effectively pressing against the opposite clip. With Moog joints, the cross was a little long (shit tolerances I’d guess) and I ended up having to grind down the tips of the cross because I couldn’t get both clips in. With Spicer joints, I did not have the same issue, they just went right in. I also did not use a big c-clamp, I used a bench vice so I didn’t really run the risk of cracking the connection points. An air gun and a big c-clamp could over stress the connection.

That’s exactly what happened to me. Moog joint and I needed a tiny bit more clearance to fit the second clip in so I pressed the joint in a bit more and cracked the opposite side of the driveshaft. This was on the third Ujoint I did. The first two went in fine.

 I'll try to refrain from ill-advised shit on the trip! @GarlicFarts I'm gonna need you to keep me in check, no matter how fun the long travel might get.
Shift knob? I don't recall that..? But then again I'm getting senile.
That's a NICE trailer! I have an old equipment trailer that was built on some of the Dayton hub axles. It can haul no problem, but getting those wheels to seat properly and spin true is infuriating :goingcrazy:

There's all logging roads not much trails but we'll have some tighter roads that'll be more fun.

Got shafted last year, was on a nice fun road, a slow jeep pulled off and let us pass, then we came around the corner and were behind a forest ranger for the next 10 miles. I THINK we had a grenaded strut at that point but don’t remember.

We hit 90 going down the golden road. That was sketch. Hit a small rut and suddenly I was 25 feet to my left. Slowed down after that one.

…And you could see the dust cloud from Montana.

Thanks! I actually got it kind of up in your direction - Lucky's in South Royalton. It's their "economy" car hauler, but it's hard to tell where they cut corners. In comparing it to the next one up, it looks like it sacrifices the dovetail, radial tires, and LED lighting (though this definitely has at least some LEDs, so maybe that is standard now). They did order this with optional stuff like the second brake axle and spare tire mount.

I ordered a new toolbox for the front since I gave mine away with my old trailer and wanted something smaller. I went with a $60 weatherproof/impact proof poly box from Granger that I figure I'll just bolt to the A-frame instead of a proper trailer toolbox. It was a lot cheaper to go that route and I think it'll work fine.

I need some dirt therapy. It’s been a slow summer for the dirt for me. I also didn’t get to go cross country in the spring or hit KAT this fall soooo way too much pavement not enough camping.

Torqued and porked. POR'd the carrier brackets and touched up some minor rust on the cross member while everything was out.

I would say my driveline angles are pretty spot on. These angles are referenced from the frontmost yoke on the shaft as installed:

I have some stainless tube on order to replace the washer stacks I used to dial everything in.

A test drive revealed that I should have done this a loooooong time ago.
