My CV's click sometimes when the wheel is at full lock wither backing up for forward making tight turns. Anyone else have this happen? I assume only the lifted trucks experience this. I want to say I remember my old 4runner doing the same thing when it was lifted prior to the SAS.

60k on vehicle. 5100's set at 0 with 886 springs. low pro bumper with winch and 265/70 r 17 tires for info.

edit: this is only at full steering lock. no other time at all.

edit 2: or is it just this:

I had this issue within the last year. I just replaced them and no more clicking.

I wouldn't say it's just lifted trucks that experience it. Just part of them wearing out & needing replaced.

Did yours only click at full lock or turning in general?

Yes, only when turning sharp. Driving straight, no noise. Drive slow, like 5mph, and stick your head out the window. Turn sharp and you should easily hear it clicking/popping, it's pretty distinct.

60k seems low miles for your CV's to be bad. But depends on how much you're lifted & the conditions they experience (off-roading, mud, etc.). I replaced mine at about 225k, but it's mainly on pavement.

I really can only hear it when pulling out of a parking space in reverse and the wheels are completely at lock in one direction.

Is it a single "click" or do you hear it multiple times when turning/backing up?

multiple times when backing up at full lock. If I straighten the wheel just a little so it's not at full lock then I don't hear the clicking. I'm assuming my CV's are binding a little when at full lock and the slightest change relieves it enough to not bind?

I had a similar symptom on another car (Audi A4 Quattro), multiple "clicks" while turning whose frequency corresponded to the speed of the vehicle. At first, it was just sharp turns, but it eventually got worse and happened almost every time I turned. In that case, it was the CV joint on the front passenger CV shaft that was going bad—sounds like your situation is similar.

Well I just went out today to a parking lot and locked the wheels left and right and did back ups and circles and never heard the clicks except the loose ness of front half shafts. So i'm hoping that was is and my mind was just making it worse than it is.
