Replace stock SR wheels with TRD PRO

I have a stock 2019 Tacoma SR with the ugly ass stock wheels. Want to replace with black wheels and am thinking of buying the TRD Pro wheels. My stock wheels are 16" and I see TRD Pro online at both 16" and 17".

I'm thinking I should be buying the 16" so those match my current wheels but I'm thinking (not sure if I even want to) that I can get the 17" and then downsize the sidewalls on my tires (I need to get new ones anyway) so that the overall wheel + tire diameter is the same as I currently have.

If I do go with the 16", I see the stock tires for the TRD Pro are 20mm wider and a 5% smaller ratio as to keep the wheel + tire diameter at just about the same as I have on my SR.

Questions:
1. Should I get 16" or 17"?
2. If I get the 16" I am assuming I buy the stock tire size for the TRD Pro wheels (the 20mm wider and 5% smaller ratio)?
3. Do you guys seem to like the glossy or matte better?
4. Assume the link below to Toyota's site is the correct wheel to buy? If anyone knows of a cheaper price let me know, I don't have to pay for shipping on this since I am local to the dealer.

I went from P245/75R16 on my 2016 SR5 to the matte black TRD Sema 17" rims and 265/70R 17“ tires. My rims are a hair different then the ones you picked but I got the set of 4 on ebay from a Toyota dealer. I think I paid around 200 each including shipping. They are just a little more now.

Get the T4R 17" sema wheel. They have a much lower offset than the tacoma 16" trd pro wheels. I run 265/70/17 on my sema wheels.

 

I have the 17 pro wheels. They are called the “trd pro seam” wheels. They are cool and not that heavy. But I would run 16” rims if I can go back. When you have 16” rims, you will have a bigger tire sidewall. So they ride will be slightly better. And it looks more “meaty”


And matte black??? Ehhh overplayed and hides the rims. Can’t see the nice details of it. And they are a pain to clean. get gold ones or gunmetal.

 

You will also need new lug nuts for the alloy wheels and possibly new TPMS sensors.

 

The 16's offset is similar to stock wheel offset. Which means your wheels won't stick out nearly as much as they do with the T4R SEMA wheels you have. The 17" SEMA offset is 4MM. I think the Tacoma 16" TRD wheels are 25MM. So a bigger tire on the 16" might rub. Or at the least, not look as flush as the 17" T4R Sema wheels.

I got rid of the sad off road wheels and put these on, glossy because not a fan of the faded powder look, dusty roads will hide the shine till I'm in the mood for shinny

I also put the trd pro "Sema" 4runner wheels on my 2021 SR5. Went with Matte black, not a fan of the glossy black look and gunmetal was too much silver for my silver sky tacoma for me

So it seems that the overwhelming recommendation is to go with the Sema 17". Unfortunately I can't find them for under 940 but I guess that's the price you pay for quality. In regards to installation I guess I just bring wheels to tire shop and get new tires and have them put them on the new wheels? Sorry for my ignorance when it comes to wheels.

 

Ya I put them in my bed and brought them with me to Discount Tire. Told the guy to put my new tires on the new wheels with the black lug nuts purchased too. Was pretty simple. Sold my old wheels and tires to someone on this forum

I went with the 17s wrapped in 255/70-17 Falkens

 

Wheel size is really up to you and what style you like better. 17" has more tire size options but it sounds like you are not interested in a crazy tire size to achieve a look or fit. Some people like 16" for more sidewall and feel it's better for off-road.

So do you like the look of the 17' TRD SEMA (4Runner) wheel better than the 16" TRD (Tacoma)? There is a thread about fit issues/center bore size with the new style 2021 17" TRD 4runner wheel. I'm not sure if this has been resolved yet. All years 2020 and before fit fine on the Tacoma.

I went from the 16" SR5 wheel to the 17" TRD SEMA and increased the tire size by 1", 265/70R17

Stock SR/SR5: 245/75R16 =30.5"
Stock TRD OR: 265/70R16 = 30.6"
Stock 4Runner: 265/70R17 = 31.6"

Here is a great site to compare sizes Lastly, if you can wait. The TRD parts go on sale around holidays/long weekends and have free shipping through the Toyota parts website. I got my wheels for $155 each with free delivery and have heard of people getting them for $140 each with free shipping. It looks like MSRP has gone up about $50 each on these so you may not see prices that low again. Just google search the part number and the add bar at the top should show you the best prices.

 

I swapped the OR wheels for '21 Pro wheels. They are ~2.5 lbs lighter and maintain a reasonably efficient offset. Black is overdone; but black looks good on MGM and all color trucks, really.

 

Thing is I need new tires so this is the perfect time to get the new wheels. I guess I can wait until labor day and hopefully get a good deal then.

Can anyone confirm that the 2021 and newer have not had the issue solved yet? Also what is the part number to search for (and how do I know if I'm getting a 2020 or older?)
