Sounds like you did similar to me, I originally purchased the kestral’s and worn them around the house and sent them back due to pinching the toes and it being relatively narrow. The hellcats are great with the square toe box. So I guess my next think would be to try a more platform oriented pedal. I find it weird we’re struggling with the XT / XTR’s when they’re such a popular pedal. Then again maybe our shoes are too soft for them.

So I’ve started about mid ways in the shoe and all the way back, honestly all the way back was less severe, but still shown up. It makes sense that the shoes aren’t stiff enough, because it is like my foot gets a hot spot in it where the pedal is. I don’t know that I prefer the cleat slammed, maybe 1/4 of the way forward, just behind ball of foot.

Now idk what to try first, new shoes or new pedals.. They’re all relatively the same price.

I always had numbness when riding clipless. Shoes, cleat position, pedals. Nothing seemed to totally get rid of it. Flats do though. *Shrug*

My OneUp was starting to get pretty slow. Did the quick clean up and grease maintenance they recommended and it’s back to normal. Did you make sure the bushing interface is all clean and lubed?

For comparison purposes, my cleats are slammed pretty far forward. That might be why I get bottom foot pain rather than toe numbness.

I actually do need to do the service but the air was also super low, like I think it was at 150.

I'm running the XT Trails and Kestrels, no issues. I try to line up the cleat with the ball of my foot. Shoes tied snug, but not tight. I've always ridden stiffer shoes which are kind of their own platform -- I could see where a more flexible shoe might benefit from a bigger platform than the Trails. The Saint SPD's didn't exist when I started using Trails, and I'll likely give them a shot next time I need pedals.

See my response above. Make sure the bushing interface is clean and properly lubed. My OneUp slowed way down when it needed a quick cleaning. Took about 2 minutes to get it back to normal.

Sorry I lost track of who originally asked about the slow post. Thought it was you but see I mixed it up.

    not enough.
to echo everyone else, i've seen slow oneup's...Just need to unscrew the collar, clean and lube it for a quick service. a full service takes a little bit more time but it's not the end of the world. Also, oneup's manuals state the pressure should be 250-300. 250 for slow. 300 for fast. So I put mine at 290. Don't forget to cycle it a few times before checkign pressure one last time.

I also set mine at 290...mostly because I feel like my shock pump is going to explode if it gets to 300

At least your not dealing with the Specialized Command Dropper - aka the nutcracker. Went on a biking trip with some guys last year and they were launching everything they could find into the air.

But from what it sounds like, a simple service would help!

I use the Shimano AM5 with the XTR Pedals. The AM5s have are softer flex for a SPD shoe and I put my cleats fairly far back but not fully maxxed out. I used to get the hot spot with regular socks and I would consistently blow out my socks in that area. I picked up some defeet Mont Ventoux socks to try and they totally eliminated that issue. I definitely have wider feet and the Shimanos have a generous toe box, but if these weren't available I would go with RC's offerings. I have several pairs of their flat pedal shoes and they are excellent.

I think cleat position is personal choice. I prefer my cleat to be somewhat centered under the ball of my foot. I also have a set of Specialized Recon 3.0 MTB shoes, so they are pretty stiff. Not as stiff as road shoes but more stiff than flat pedal shoes. I don't really get numb or hot spots but have been road riding and clipping in since the late '80s.

I use Crank Bros Candy pedals, started with them on my CX bike, put a pair on the mtb but after I got a little more comfortable on the mtb I did switch to flats. I like the flat pedals on the mtb but since I was more used to road/gravel and clipping in I am glad I didn't start with flats.

Lol, I remember the first and last time I wasn't sitting on the saddle when I hit the lever on my command post.

This just reminded me of my buddies dropper post I got for free from a dude on pinkbike. He sold me an old Yakima rack for super cheap as I'm loading up he asked me if I want this old dropper post? I was like sureeee man... Installed it on my buddies bike and was like :eek::eek:

Thanks to this thread and a little bit of persistence, I finally scored a pair of the 5.10 Kestrels from Burlington. Now to upgrade my pedals from my current flats.

At this rate I’ll replace my entire closet. Buy one thing from WWC and let the coupons rain.

Still recovering so mostly flyfishing instead of biking. The bike did help me find some new spots. Location is Ketchum, ID and beyond. This truck is still my favorite over the 3rd Gens.

I do like their shorts, can wear them riding and when going out.

Stinks about the code though, every now and then WWC will send me 10-15% off codes for their site and sometimes they'll do $10-20 off $50 for example.

Agreed on the shorts. I had a gift card so I figured I’d give the V2 a go. I like the price point of the V1 (especially if coupled with a discount) but I don’t dig super short shorts. Not to say the V1 are super short, but now that I have the longer V2 I’m pretty sure the V1 are shorter than I’d like, especially while on a bike.

If I fall on another $30 off coupon (that actually works) I’ll give the V1 a chance. Gotta check on WWC return policy. Feel like I’ve gotten spoiled with companies that offer free returns.
