Soak that shit in hydrogen peroxide and then put some gauze on it and wrap in electrical tape or medical tape.
I practically sliced of my finger in a primer can doing plumbing. Super glue to the rescue :fistbump:

    Ouch!

I had a similar thing happen when a fish kicked as I tried holding it up for a picture and somehow managed to break a tooth off in my thumb. I don't like doctors, either, so I waited about 3 weeks and it started to poke back out. I should have gotten pictures when I pulled it out.

    This was fun!

Seatrout got all nutso and buried the hook in my thumb while still hooked on the crankbait. Then it flopped around while hanging from my thumb, which hurt a surprising amount!

I slammed a beer and yanked it out with a pliers.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.

That would be traditional means of dealing with it but I had recently read an article about a specific strain of bacteria that occurs in some impoundments that's really bad shit so I was being a bit more careful with this one! Seriously, if I'm not bleeding from some appendage everyday, something is very wrong!

My nephew scraped his thumb while swimming in a pool on vacation.
He caught some weird flesh eats bacterial infection. The first round of antibiotics didn’t work.
And they sent him to an infectious specialist, they took cultures and surgically removed the decayed skin. Which meant they put him under anesthesia to do it.

Poor little guy had to start the school year off with a bum thumb and really strong antibiotic that made him feel bad.

All of that over a simple scrap on his thumb.

No idea where he picked up the infection.
Kids will be kids. A 7 year doesn’t run around with a bar of soap and sanitizer.
When I was 7, you were doing good if you could catch me to give me a bath.

    No meth here:fistbump:
That was a long long time ago. You can't do this work long term if you drink, use drugs. The only thing you can do and survive is smoke some weed and work your ass off.

Well, they're both still alive and have decent jobs. One of them definitely kicked the habit the other I doubt goes longer than a week

I've been through this twice. It's called granular tissue and generally minor to fix. The body keeps building protective tissue around a foreign body and won't stop instead of festering and ejecting it. It will eventually get into the joint and mess things up. Some folks are simply more prone to getting these.

Don't mess with a dermatologist and find a general surgeon or hand specialist. Most will do a local block and a chill-pill for the nerves and won't put you out unless you want to be out. Local block is much cheaper.

I've had one on my pinky knuckle caused by a sliver of plastic and another near my ankle bone caused by a wood splinter.

Went to a dermatologist who was a quack and wanted to sell me cosmetic creams for my ankle and a "former" family physician who looked at it, she said it was vascular cancer and literally ran out of the room and left me sit there for an hour before I left out the back door without paying. Went back a year later for a required physical to check a box and they had archived my records because I was assumed to be dead. Found an awesome general surgeon who had practiced in the arm services that fixed me up without the fuss and had the tissues biopsied to be certain.

It 100% is not a myth.
I didn’t see that episode, and I typically take those guys word on things.
But in this case, Nope. I disagree.

I seen it, felt it and still have the proof in my arm.

Felt like a Hornet sting as soon as it happened. Then blood.
I attempted to “squeeze on it” after it quit bleeding. But it just started bleeding again and to be honest “was uncomfortable and hurt” (Take my man card)
But it wasn’t coming out. And I wasn’t paying $500+ for an emergency room visit.
