A whole lot more than I expected to!

It was supposed to just be something cheap and fun to hold me over but it’s really a great bike for commuting and hitting the highway for a bit.

It’s not “me” or my style, I have no real strong connection to it, and yet every time I’m on it I enjoy the ride greatly. So far so good! May keep it for a long time, we shall see!

The only problem I have with it is it really wants to go 125 rather than 65 on the way to and from work for some reason

Just a few photos of the current status of the klx got to take more apart tonight I wish I had more time but raising a puppy I don’t get much time haha
Well everyone the issue has been found… after taking the clutch pack off I went to find a socket for the primary nut but sadly it wasn’t needed… the primary nut was so loose I spun it off with one finger…. So for those that don’t know what the primary nut does.

thr primary nut sandwiches 3 sprockets together and the cam sprocket and outer sprocket have a woodruff key that keeps them aligned from what I can see. Well when the primary nut comes loose the outer sprocket starts to walks away which causes the cam sprocket to come out of the woodruff key and spin freely which then throws the bike out of time… if this happens while riding it can have your piston meet the valves and it’s no fun.

so after that explanation my key did in fact come out and get part of it sheared off so my hope is since my bike stalled and then wouldn’t start is that my piston didn’t make new friends but that will come tomorrow when I pull the head I ran out of time for tonight so I’ll post the pics I have and will update you all tomorrow!

oh also I’ve never looked at a clutch disc on a power sport before mine has a tiny bit of blue on the edge (pic attached) should I replace this now or does it look fine?

Might as well replace the clutch discs while you are in there. Try having 2 kids under 5. All the 2 year old wants to do when he “helps” is move around all of the sockets and hit stuff with the ratchet.

Haha no kids just a dog atm but she isn’t like my last dog who could be left alone for hours in the house this one is a real pain atm getting into stuff… I can’t even take her down to the garage because she is afraid of vehicles so she just wines the entire time

I’ve had 500/600 mile days that were easier than 100 mile rides. When I hydrate, wear full gear and have a good riding buddy the miles melt away. Still don’t think I’ve hit 1k miles in “a day”/single ride on the bike.

I always wonder if guys actually mean they did it in one ride or over the course of 24 hours. I think the iron butt counts either right?

The Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1k is 1000 miles within a 24 hour period. Both of mine were over 1000 miles straight, about 15-17 hours on the bike and at gas stops.

Those are lots of highway miles, I’ve done a lot shorter days with less mileage on small roads and dirt that were more tiring for sure.

Impressive for sure. Same bike both times? If not which one was better?

Same bike (R1250R) but the second time around I had bar risers, lowered pegs, and a Sargent seat and it was more comfortable by far.

Picking up the check tomorrow for the R1250R, totaled out for almost $24k.

I'm doing about 375 miles over six or seven hours tomorrow and then back again on Sunday. Even that mentally exhausts me every time. I don't think I'm built for 1000.

Edit: that countersprocket I put on last weekend though is going to be amazing. Even just a tooth up was like adding a seventh gear.

My folks used to live exactly 100 miles from me. As in front door to front door dead on to the hundredth haha more of a fun fact, that part. But I always found that ride to be the perfect relaxing leg. 100 there, say hi for a bit, hang out, 100 back. Nice relaxing day. No strain or fatigue. We’ve done hundreds in a day and thousands in a trip and I can honestly say it’s too windy and the weather too unpredictable for it to be fully enjoyable for me. There’s always something stressful going on. We like having the 4 wheels for multi-state multi-week trips. I always dreamed of doing long distance continent to continent until I started doing long distance. Now I know what I enjoy and what I could do if I had to haha.

Well everyone tonight the head was pulled… I found two small indents on the piston so I took a look at the valves and the exhaust valves look to be stuck in a open position and jammed onto the side of the seat where the usually sit…. So it looks like I’m gonna need valves and a piston plus the other stuff…

now I’m no expert so if you all see something do let me know… I’ve never torn an engine down this far before so with me looking at it things don’t look to good maybe you see it otherwise? Idk

That is freaking cool! I get a little too excited over "exact" mileage numbers like that... :bananadance:

Really appreciate those pics as I've never broken anything other than a lawn mower down that far!
