As many as I can fabricate
    Good morning folks.
    A true story.
Mom and Dad moved from the Washington DC area in 1976 to Southern Ohio. They bought 40 acres and a cabin that was built in 1849. Dad completely rebuilt the cabin over several years. There were chickens roosting on the second floor in the beginning. The cabin was constructed with 18"x18" Red Oak logs. Several times a year all the kids would travel back to Ohio to see Mom and Dad. I moved back a few years later and started work in Lancaster, Columbus and Marion. Eventually Mom could not handle the fog and moisture in the "Holler" and Dad sold the house land. I always drove by when I was in the area to see how the homestead was going but as the years went on it was harder and harder as I spent almost twelve years in Europe with the US Navy. Until yesterday.
I drove by the property and there was a lady unloading the car. I looked up and the house looked very different. It was not the same house. So I rolled down the window and asked what happened to the house. She told me sadly the house burned down several years ago. It was a stove flu that caught the logs on fire. They think is smoldering for several days and then at 2am the wall lit up. They could not save the house.
We talked for a while and the couple were so very nice, grandchildren playing in the yard, dogs and cats running around in this beautiful holler setting on Davis Chapel Road.
She then asked me "Did the old house mean that much to you?" I said oh yes, lots of memories here, holidays, birthdays and of course Grandma in the kitchen before she passed in 1979.
She then told me "back the truck into the yard, I'm going to give you a piece of your Father's old house" I was in tears. So we hopped into the side by side and drove around back. She opened the shed and her husband pulled out this plank of 18" Red Oak and handed it to me.
    I lost it.
Now I have a piece of the "House that Jack built"
This has been a wonderful trip.
