When I learned that about these vehicles, I wanted to just yank it out. Then it'd bother me that I'd have a limp needle on my dash.

Did you do the resistor mod to the 80 series, it brings the gauge to life and reports actual rather than center deadened

@Ozark_RegCab could have a really simple fix.

Just need to look at the issues (or codes in this case) and tackle them.

 

I suppose the readings I was getting in the scan gauge for temperature might be faulty then, although they seemed normal at 180-190f. Unless that’s the sender that gives those readings. Sorry im a little slow to the draw today.

 

That's why I love my Nissans and Yotas. Both have similar quirks.

Yea shouldn’t be too bad, but the KS replacement requires a fair bit if disassembly I gather.

 

Yeah that one admittedly isn't fun. It's not hard but it's work

 

All the Toyota scan gauges are like that. “Oh I forgot to tell you your engine is cooked, sorry about that.”

 

That requires pulling the intake manifold yes?

Hear those wire harnesses are brittle as hell.

Yea and the fuel rails have to come off. I’m doing a cost/benefit analysis on whether to take it to a shop so they can deal with all the brittle connections and broken fasteners etc.

But then the labor really adds up if I wanna service injectors and reseal the coolant pipe while I’m in there.

 

You have multiple cars don't you?

I'd do it myself if I had another vehicle to drive.
