The knock sensor was completely disconected... no code just a myriad of issues

 

Don't know of any real servicing, but @CS_AR posted some really detailed info regarding OEM fuel injectors and such.

Me, I wouldn't replace them if they ain't broke.

 

I guarantee you'll be paying for it at a shop. Might as well DIY it right. The only person I trust up north is Jason Harris at Ozark Overland Outfitter in West Plains MO. I know how he works.

 

This is my only ride but my gf and I sometimes share her 2013 Avalon for commuting.

I saw that thread yea. I am considering having the injectors serviced.

I'm hoping he can get by with new o-rings and maybe screens. He would be changing injectors from Phase I to Phase II. If his Phase I injectors are healthy -- just leave them alone.

 

I've seen rodents chew up injector harnesses on 2UZ engines a lot. I don't think a rodent can get into the valley on a 5VZ.

 

Biscuit has a vet appointment today; mom's taking her now.

 

I was quoted $500 in lavor for the knock sensors from a reputable local shop here in town. Jason is great but he’s usually super busy.

 

Yeah.. Booked out months in advance most of the time.

 

He’s the in it one I’d trust to do a top end rebuild on a 1fz around here though.

 

@CS_AR have you had any experience with the cats disintegrating and killing the engine on a 5.6 Nissan V8?

I saw a Car Wizard video once where he mentioned that issue.

 

We need to get you fixed up so we can go hit some of the Ozarks trails with some of the Tacoma guys from NWA.

 

Unless his vehicle went into limp mode, which I haven't heard him say it has, I'd get the ECT sensor asap and replace that. Should take care of drivability issues.

10 minute job depending how good you are at clean up; a little fuel will spill out.

I knocked that out in a parking lot when it happened to me.

 

Not on a VK 5.6. That was a known issue on some VQ engines. I bypassed the pre-cats on my VQ30 for better flow. Though not required on that year model. If I had a different VQ I would bypass the pre-cats just to prevent something like that from happening. We don't have emission testing so a lot of mods are possible.

 

I almost bought a 2000 Xterra a while back with a 5 speed and the VG33 but opted for a LC instead. Those early Xterras seem like pretty solid little rigs.

 

I can’t tell if it’s in limp mode. But it feels like it has a 22re under the hood right now. It does have 275/70/17s with stock 4.10s though.

 

Did you ever see the guy that lives around Oliver Springs (near Rudy) with all of the Xterras in his yard?

 

Haha no I never saw that.

The first gen Xterra has to be the ultimate bargain for a used 4x4 though. I probably should’ve bought that 2000 instead of the Land Cruiser with my budget.
