265 or 285?

Which aftermarket mudflaps did you go with?

 

They're heavy.

 

I've had rocks go right through the tread and sidewalls of "C" rated AT tires when I was younger. Had enough of it and have run "E" rated tires ever since all through Arizona and Colorado both having very rocky trails with never a flat. Would never go back to anything less. A blown sidewall or severe puncture is also scrapped tire ($$$$) and any cost savings is lost right there.

So, if you're rolling in rocks, get the heavy tire. It's the RIGHT tool for the job. Think of tires as part of an overall package working together with rock sliders, skid plates, and a lift=protection from rocks. We buy/install those items for occasional impact with rocks while our tires are in constant contact.

 

265s here. No need for 285s whatsoever.

255s will be my next tire.

Plasticolor ones with the "off road scene". Seem to do the job just fine.

 

surprised your MPG didn't change! what were you on before? I've thought about those (currently on well worn 265 KO2s) but the 275 are 10lbs heavier per tire. good looking truck!

 

I moved to wheels that are lighter than when I previously had 265/70/17 BFG AT. Suspect the weight changes largely offset one another.

 

What kind of lift?

 

Get 285. I've been running them for 15k miles. I only rub on the UCA when the steering is maxed Don't listen to all the people that will tell you that you need a CMC with trimming. I off-road mine pretty hard and have only rubbed once on the inner fender, never on the cab mount though.

 

what offset wheels do you have? What kind of lift? Do you have aftermarket UCAs?

 

Stock sr5 wheels, stock UCAs, no lift

It should fit fine. It's an inch taller overall, but only 1/2" at top & bottom. I see so many time where guys will talk about how this tire is 1.5" taller than another, and they expect to get 1.5" more ground clearance. It doesn't work like that; you get 0.75" extra ground clearance (at most). That extra 1.5" is spread out over the top AND bottom.

Bilisten 5100's with a 3 leaf add on the rear, removed the overload spring. Stock UCA's.

 

Think only kumho road venture AT makes a C load in that size.

Wait you sure you got 285s? Those look like 265s or maybe 275s in the picture.

I just can’t believe 285s don’t rub without modifications. There is simply
not enough room
Width wise to run 285s.
