With normal driving my RPMs don’t go over 2.5k. 3k is when I’m going up steep hills.

Thats fine, long as there's a load on the engine. I've 3k on steeper hills towing my trailer. Most of the time its never past 2200 rpm.

Why build an engine with Hp and torque in the mid to upper RPMs if they only expect it to operate at 2200 rpm? Why not put a rev limiter at 3500 so the engine lasts longer oh wait then the Hp and torque would be abysmal. Please. :jerkoff:

    Nope.

Even on stock tune I had plenty of power below 3k.

Did you drive a 3rd gen?

Mine stays under 3k for the most part even while loaded and it hilly areas.

Sometimes it down shifts and revs higher than that but not often.

Life starts getting fun at 3000 rpm. My 3rz taco practically lives there, but that’s where the Nissan starts getting me speeding tickets

YIKES, tell me you didn't have issues getting that paid

Solid though. I've long said social media is one's worst enemy in some cases when people have to share every little thing they do

They most definitely already do this. Any 2020+ 4runner and Tacoma sends data back to the manufacturer. Has been documented on here and other forums.

Are the days of Toyota's "bulletproof" "million mile" motors over?

Im not sure anything will surpass engines like the 1uz-fe that came out of Japan’s booming economy in the 80s and 90s.

i can say with complete confidence that no engine with an aluminum block is remotely bullet proof.

Anyone know if a Chinese company was making these heads then ? Teledyne Continental had a bunch of Chinese cylinder assemblies in that time frame that the valve guide bores were out of alignment then the guides were reamed perpendicular. We replaced a lot of cylinders with burned valves on new cirrus aircraft with less than 100 hours on them in many cases. Manufacturers sometimes save enough with junk products that they’re more profitable even with warranty repair coverage. Not accusing Toyota of doing this. But who isn’t these days.

Nothing is bulletproof. It was over heated . Once an engine over heats all bets are off. Everyone should be under there hood for a quick check once a week at least . Check the oil . Look at the coolant overflow . Is it empty if it is coolant is going some where. Big red flag . Oil leaks etc look around . It’s a machine. I am routing for the OP here but in reality there had to be signs before this happened. Coolant is a big problem once there isn’t enough. It is just as bad as oil .
