Do these speakers fit the rear doors on 3rd gen tacomas? I know the tweeters don't fit, I'm concerned about the main driver.

Crutchfield says they do. It's a 6.5" round without any large protrusions from the front. I don't see a problem.

My understanding from reading the threads, unless you have the JBL stereo, the rear output is very poor and better speakers don't do much to improve the sound without an amp.

    I have a 125w x 4 amp.

How did you get those results on crutfield? When I did it, it said they wouldn't fit. I assumed It was because the tweeter.

Crutchfield says a lot of stuff won't fit that will. They are super conservative for anything that is not 100% pnp. With the amp those should sound rad. I always liked Infinity but you will likely need to find a home for the component tweeters if you choose to run them. Will need the weird 3-prong brackets to put the woofers in with.

Pioneer CD, Megaloud/JBL amps, Rockford/Polk speakers.
That could be the reason..I'd try the same search for the 6.5 alone.

They also said one of the Pioneer single DINs (I forget, it's been a few years) wouldn't fit in my truck and everywhere else said it did. I rolled the dice and it was fine.

If they fit the front, they will fit the back. I just bought the JL's and went through all this. My concern is the tweeter. You are going to lose the higher notes coming out of that speakers since it's not a full range speaker.

The 6x9s of the same series for the front just fine.

I just ordered a set along with the mx20. I was really impressed with the mx20 in the front that I want to try them in the rear too. I'll report back with a photo of my final work.
