Tire and plastic treatment: what do you use?

I just started using tire dressing for the first time. I used Maguier's Gold Class Endurance Tire Gel...



For the exterior plastic I have been using Mother's Back To Black, and now am using Chemical Guys Bare Bones for undercarriage and engine. Not sure if I like shine on the tires, I just want matte and clean look.

Anyone every use Michelin products, and are they any good?

I was also recommended in another thread Adam's Super VRT for wheels and exterior trim. Their video looks interesting on their website.

Sorry - missed the why question.

It doesn't seem to leave things slimy. Lots of good reviews. Used it on the interior and tonneau cover since I've had my truck.

I've tried other stuff on my tires. Many seem to last a little longer, but I always felt like there was still a layer of goop on them at the next wash. When I got my new tires in Aug I decided I'd just try the 303 on them as well. So far I'm happy.

 

Yes, I use that on the interior. Great stuff. So you use that on your tires? I also have been wary of anything on the tonneau because of possible streaking from runoff.

mothers back to black works great for black exterior pieces. i use meguires tire foam.

 

Mud...I use mud. Nothing makes it look worse, Don't have to worry about overspray, and it sets the bar really low...so when I DO wash the truck...Looks like a million bucks in just a few mins...

 

So far happy with the tires and tonneau. Not too shiny at all. The tonneau doesn't look even at first (probably would if I'd work harder at it) but within an hour or so it's great. I even put it on the black plastic on the top of the sides of the bed. I've never noticed anything running down the side of my truck and I've had the cover since summer 06. Seems to soak in real well.

Biggest complaint I have is the more uses I find for 303 the more frequently I have to order...

Don't want to hijack - but I just recently heard of Bare Bones. Never tried it - but I like to try and keep my wheel wells clean. Have you been happy with it.

 

Bare bones rules for wheel wells are under side. Use Adams vrt every where else on outside trim. Waterproof so no run off.

 

I just started using the bare bones as well and I love the stuff, It's replaced everything I used to use on the black parts on the outside of truck and the engine compartment. I've even used a light amount on my tonneau cover.

 

I used it (bare Bones) once so far, and its great. I think its similar to some tire dressings. It leaves a shine, makes parts look like their original black, and its oil based, so it repels water (and they claim dirt too). The nice thing is you just spray it on...that's it. I was told by the sales guy at Chemical Guys that the undercarriage needs to be dry first, because the oil and water don't mix, so if you have water drops, then spray on the bare bones, you will have spots.

 

How did that work out on the tonneau, and how did you apply it?

 

Interior Plastics: 303 Aerospace. Perfect, Matte finish and proven protection.

Mud Flaps: Chemical Guys Bare Bones. Easy to use aerosol. Excellent finish.

Exterior Plastics: Poorboys Trim Restorer. Finishes similar to others, but priced well and great smell

Engine: CD2. Easy to use aerosol

 

For interior/underhood plastic and rubber I use Meguires Quik Interior Detailer.It cleans and renews finish. For exterior plastic and rubber I use 303 Aerospace Protectant. It has UV protection. For tires I use Meguires Hot Shine Tire Spray. It doesn't have too much gloss.

 

I don't use tire dressing I like the matte dry look of the tires. I figure I'll wear them out before they start dry rotting because that takes years. As far as the black plastic pieces I just stick with Black Magic. It works good, it's cheap, and I can find it anywhere. It just rained here for the last 3 days and the product is still on the plastic.

 

Tire Shine: Shining Monkey No spitting Tire shine. Awesome Stuff! Spray on, and drive off and last for a good while.

Plastics: 303

 

i detail exotics as a hobby. i've spent a lot of time researching what works and what doesn't. there are lots of great products out there, but i've settled on several for the areas discussed in this thread:

interior trim - optimum protectant plus
exterior trim - seal with optimum opti-seal when new, use optimum spray wax when i dry after each wash
wheel wells/inner flaps/engine plastics - meguiar's hyper dressing 4:1
exterior of flaps - opti-seal when new, optimum spray wax after each wash
tires - optimum tire shine

if you have faded exterior black plastic trim, i've had great success with a product called renu finish by meds products. also, black again is fantastic. both of those items, when used properly and sealed with sealant, can ideally restore permanently.

i prefer mostly optimum products because his stuff is actually good for the surface. and one thing people forget is that a quality sealant and upkeep with the right wax/sealant hybrid will keep all surfaces from being damaged by the sun and environment. people avoid applying such protective products to plastics, etc because historically exterior protective products haven't been compatible with such. things have changed a ton!

 

Found the flaw.

Been using 303 on the tires since Sept. Drought here.

Last application was 11 days ago. Two inches of rain today. Most in months. Tires alarmingly grey. As long as it doesn't rain 303 seems really good. Now I'm not so sure...

 

Try 303 aerospace......can usually obtain at undercoating/detailing shops.

 

For my tires I use mud. For outside plastics I use Mothers Back to Black.
