I bought my TRX a month ago and could sell it tomorrow to one of the various wholesalers for a $10k profit. Could probably sell it for about a $20k profit private party. People are paying stupid money to not wait months in line for the truck to get built.

I realized I should have said “ordered” not “purchased” because who knows what price you’d pay to purchase it and who knows what price people will pay for one when you get the one you ordered.

Idk. I just looked on auto trader and a bunch for sale for in the 80s and 90s. MSRP on the ones I looked at are mid-90s not including dealer mark up and TTT. So about $20k+ in losses.

Yeah, if you buy one at markup like a dummy then it will be hard to make a profit selling. Out the door mine was $12k under the window sticker because I ordered, had it price locked the day of order and waited for months to get it while the MSRP increased several times.

You got a Rivian at $12,000 under sticker?

In an ideal world we should be able to get 10-15k off sticker like you did. Market just messed up now

No, TRX. My preorder Rivian includes options they basically said won’t be available until 2023/24.

Very. If you have the money though it can be made to work for you. There’s a guy on a TRX forum that has bought about 10 TRXs, all at discount, and flipped them for substantial profit. All told he’s probably made about $150-200k in the last year just selling trucks on the side.

What options on the Rivian are delayed that long? I’m aware of the ocean coast interior delayed until “Fall 2022” which could be the week before Christmas and the Max Pack battery deliveries start the first half of next year.

Okay, a discount on a Rivian would seem impossible.

Why did the dealer give you a discount on a TRX order?

I see certain dealerships offer those kinds of incentives for people to pre order new vehicles.

Max pack and explore trim level. I thought those were both late 2023 in the last update email about them. Could definitely be wrong though, been a while since that was sent out and I read it.

There’s several dealerships around the country try that offer discounts like that on customer ordered TRXs and other high price FCA vehicles. The explanation I was given at the time is that the high volume, low profit sales are still profitable, require very little sales work, pump up their sales numbers so they get better allocations on limited run vehicles and if anyone backs out of the deal it gives them a truck to sell at markup that doesn’t count against the dealerships allocations for that vehicle.

Yeah, they don’t work very well trying to retrofit them. This isn’t our forever home either, so just upkeep until we sell it.

I buy vehicles to use them. Plenty of other ways to make money. Not really making that much either, tax man is going to get his share. Have a couple buddies who like to wheel and deal, seems like a huge pain in the ass to me. We used to own a swimming pool, spa, wood/gas stove dealership/distributorship, also sold lawn equipment and seasonal products, beyond over sales and dealing with dipshits. Plus Rivian feels like one of those companies that can go belly up at any moment. Ford pulling out is one of the signs, there are others…

    Ever heard of Saab?

Great cars…not worth much of anything these days. Collector’s market is fickle.

I don't think Saab had that big of a following, and when GM bought them, can't recall who owned Sabb at the end. They probably lost some of their die hard fans.

Not bad cars, and there were a few performance models along the way that were cool, but VW, Audi, and later BMW took over that market.

There are probably a lot of Saab fans kilowatting around in Teslas today.

Thats what i was told also,
this statement is usually made by those who dont understand that lighting just doesnt make up a signification percentage of your electric bill.

Does it save you money? YES because it uses the energy more efficiently but just like the people who tell you to invest in new windows and charge you 1k per window installed. you will possibly never recoup the cost in energy savings. Same with LED's

    Edit

Oof! The Sabb branded GM SUV was the 1st listing.
