When I bought my first Toyota, which was an Avalon, I immediately started a 5000-mile road trip after leaving the dealership. I followed the part of not revving the engine past 4k RPM, but I didn't know about constant speed and all that. I set it all the way at highway speed with cruise control, the exact opposite of what the manual says.

As far as I can tell, nothing happened after 110k miles, runs like the day it was bought, no oil burning, gas mileage is always bad with the way I drive so I can't tell. The mechanic inspected the car before it's sold told me car could still do another 200k miles easily.

Granted that's a FWD car, for the trucks, because you have differential gears need break-in too, I'd say don't do highway speed for more than 2 hours. During break in period, differentials produce a lot of heat and long high speed drives can potentially overcook the diff fluid.

And even that's just in theory what can happen, I have yet to read about someone not following break in and diff failed due to that, so chances are you're ok.

After taking 3 new Toyota's to 250k+ miles each, I can tell you that break in has far less to do with engine longevity than regular maintenance. I've worked in and around the automotive manufacturing industry for 40 years, most folks would not believe what the first 15 minutes of their vehicles life is like. Burnouts from the end of the assembly line to the power/braking dyno are common. More of the same to the test track. You did not hurt your new truck one bit during your drive home. Actually the long periods at operating temperature do more to seat the rings then anything else does. Stop worrying about this...

There are literally millions of vehicles on the road that were never treated to break in rules.

    You'll be fine.

And a taste test is a much more accurate way to inspect the oil than looking.

Good point, I watch youtube videos, like Raiti's Rides, Ben Hardy. They would go to a dealership and test drive an actual vehicle for sale, not a press car. Brand spanking new under 20 miles on the odometer, and they would go full throttle hitting rev limiter.

I trust they know about break-in, and not to follow that, probably it doesn't matter.

Another vote for just drive it.
As mentioned the lot lizards already started your truck cold, floored it, slammed on the brakes, and shut off cold.

Tech won't be able to really tell much besides it's black (totally normal) and if it's glittery (totally NOT normal lol). If you really want a thorough look, get a blackstone oil analysis or the like. It'll tell you everything you could possibly want.
