1999 Rheem Corsaire air-conditioner at my cousin's townhouse in upstate New York; 23 years old and still going strong!

2006-2008 Carrier Comfort Series at my cousin's mom's house, also in upstate New York. The data sheet, which shows the year of manufacture and nominal tonnage of the unit, was worn off; I could not get the age or size of the unit as a result.

The house also has a natural gas backup generator; I assumed that all Cummins products were diesel until yesterday!

Ductless mini-split like you put in your old house?

I found my issue when I was going up to play with the dampers coming off my blower. I was going to adjust them since it seemed to be blowing stronger in some areas vs others. Then i found the disconnect and that solved all issues. In winter I have to adjust them slightly to keep the room furthest away warmer than my master bedroom. Not sure if you have any of those installed.

But...I also like the mini-split idea, considering that for our downstairs (if I get orders to stay here) since that's where we spend 90% of our time.

Maybe I'll do some mini splits next year, 112yr old house with just me living in it, would be wasteful doing a whole house unit.

Higher efficiency seems to equal lower quality in my opinion...

Snyder General (branded as a Comfortmaker) central A/C unit in my old neighborhood. The very first houses were built in 1989-1990 (ours was 1990), and the last were built in 1993, so this unit is about 30 years old at the very newest and still going!

Another early 1990s Comfortmaker at a nearby neighborhood by the same builder (the now-defunct David Cutler Group)...

The beach community in Massachusetts where my parents and I spent the last week is only open during the warmer months. Most of the houses are very old (the one we stayed in was built in like 1910), and the water pipes are not far enough underground to keep them from freezing in the winter. As a result, water is shut off to all of the houses on the beach on December 1st of every year to prevent the pipes from bursting; I believe that the water is turned back on in either March or April.

Most the houses are old and fairly basic/rudimentary, though the majority have been heavily renovated. The house we rented from my dad's Navy buddy was probably last renovated in the late 1980s or early 1990s and seemed to have an addition. It has public natural gas for the stove and water heater, but because it just had electric baseboard heat because it can't be lived in during the winter. I was absolutely shocked to see that many of the houses, both older renovated houses and newer ones, had legit central A/C. A good number also had ductless mini-splits, like the GE unit at the place next door to our house. The house with the GE mini-split was fairly new, and replaced a smaller early 20th century house that had to be torn down because it was beyond repair...
