These school mascot directionals were not here when I was in school, and I am not sure it they were put there at the start of the pandemic to encourage social distancing, or if they're older than that...

 

To the right, you can see the administrative offices, and to the left off in the distance you can see the silver 1997 T-100 that I took pictures of. When I was here, there were security measures in place, but I was gone almost a year before Columbine took place. There certainly were not tall metal fences in place when I was there! Just like in the 1990s, the playground is open to the public outside of school hours, and the gates were unlocked. We did have to check in at the front desk, but the woman had absolutely no problem with us wandering around since it was obviously outside of school hours. The bathroom to the left is one that I used regularly back in the day...

I have a couple of unpleasant memories that took place in that very bathroom. The more traumatizing of the two is when I was in a bathroom stall taking a dump sometime in 1997 (or possibly 1998); I was just trying to poop, and two or three kids decided that this was funny. They kept climbing the bathroom stall, staring down at me, and taunting me for no reason other than that they were assholes. I couldn't exactly do much because I was on the toilet with my pants down. They eventually left, and I was able to finish my business, but just do give you an idea of how traumatized I was by that incident, we were several months into the new millennium before I did number two in a public bathroom again...

 

The other bad memory was 100% due to my carelessness, and luckily it was an easy fix. There was a stuffed animal day where, as the name implies, all students were encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animals into school. My favorite stuffed animal was a little stuffed dog, a Beanie Baby knockoff off that my mom bought me at a shopping mall in Virginia in the summer of 1997 when we were visiting family. The dog's name was Clyde, and since my mom bought me Clyde in the summer of 1997, that automatically means that stuffed animal day was in 3rd grade; I have no idea if it was in late 1997 or early 1998, though.

Back in the 1990s, the boys' rooms all had ancient trough-style urinals that more closely resembled sinks; I was taking a leak while holding Clyde, and I accidentally dropped him in the urinal...



Luckily, I ran Clyde under the faucet and doused him with soap, and he was dry before the end of the day. My mom ran him through the washer and dryer for good measure, but I do not use the term "Beanie Baby knockoff" lightly; Clyde fell apart and was eventually replaced by real Beanie Baby dog in 1998 (Dobie the Doberman, specifically)...

 

This is about bullying, not dropping a deuce...

 

Years ago, I told @Plain Jane Taco the story of how a kid who didn't even go to the school came up behind me and hit me in the face with a bag of dog shit and then took off like the little coward he was when I inevitably gave chase and tried to murder him. That incident took place on this very playground in 1997. My mom was a PTA member, and I was playing the playground while my mom did some work inside the school.

 

@Plain Jane Taco specifically said that I would have been justified in "donkey-stomping the shit out of the kid" over the dog poop incident, and that would have been putting it mildly if I actually caught the kid; I was eight years old, he was probably six or seven years, and he started it. I guarantee you that I never would have faced any charges for beating the kid within an inch of his life, considering that I was eight years old. My mom was even angrier about the incident than I was!

 

This mosaic was definitely here by at least 1997!

 

I do have to say that Landels Elementary was a genuinely good school when I was there, and I'm assuming it is now. Yeah, I was bullied a little bit, but I felt like all of the teachers actually gave a damn about educating the students!
