I just put 6112/5160's on my offroad and am pissed now I didn't do it right away. They'll do exactly what you're looking for. A very noticeable improvement over OEM.....

Looks good to me...I've got Friday the 12th off, would have to bail out Sunday though... planned to go to Lost Lakes with @71tattooguy that weekend, but I'm down if he's down to mix it up. Which lake are you planning to camp at?

Hey All, been lurking, not posting
    need advice:

found these 6112 from Facebook marketplace local to me with 20k miles. came off second gen. seller has listed for 500 which is a little high for my liking, but will watch for price drops. can anyone help me out and figure out what's with those top hats? are those the stock second gen top hats or some spacer he put on?

also looking for low mile TRD pro Bilstein takeoffs. thinking slightly used 6112/5160 would be better off than new 5100's. also Bilstein in general what do yall think about performance change over miles? have a chance to get 40k mile front 5100, 80k rear 5100, and generic AAL in rear for 200 bucks. tempted but know buy once cry once
I think the 80k rear might be too much for my liking but 40k fronts might be alright

With that said, I'm also a college kid so not made of money. which is why im not going new 6112/5160 currently.

It looks like some sort of spacer - never seen that before. If you get those, I suggest removing the spacer before installing the shocks.

20K miles is not bad for the life of the shock, but those shock bodies are really corroded. Personally, I question only 20K. Be careful.

I've never run 5100s, only 6112s, so I can't compare. I will say the 6112s are very nice, and worth being patient for. (I was in college once - I remember!)

AALs aren't a great solution, and by 80K, they are not adding much to the spring pack.

Go with the 6112’s. Remove the top plate spacer. They sell a kit with that to achieve 3” of front lift. 6112’s won’t disappoint. Good luck

I would stay away from 80k mile 5100s.

Thanks for responses. That’s definitely the route I was thinking. Will likely ask 6112 seller to at least rinse the shocks with a hose to see if any of the grime comes off that way. Can’t quite tell if it’s just super dirty or corrosion. If he spends a lot of time in Tahoe it’s believable though.

I’m slowly compiling things as I find deals. And for a while if I can’t find rear shocks and an AAL am fine with leveling the front.

I may also consider finding a decent deal for 6112 then buy new extended length 5100 for the rear to hold me over a few years. Realistically I shouldn’t to anything too crazy in my only vehicle. But there’s always the bug. Just want to clear 285-65 when I get new tires in the next 8 months or so.

cmc and spacers or uca yep I know that much. Think I’ve got a hookup on UCA’s

I was a college kid once too, I've bought some sketchy used things myself.

A shock that's on the 6/6 perch plus spacers, AND it looks dirtier than my stock takeoffs that I threw in the trash at 50k miles, I'd be extra leery about. Weird that the lower bushings look halfway ok if it weren't for the rusted bolt sleeve.

I think that the 6112s can take more abuse than most shocks on the market, but I'd still be weary of those. A dollar says that with that perch setting and that spacer, that shock has been both topped out and bottomed out within it's short life span.

Thank you. If I just want it level, what setting would I want on the 6112’s? I’ll leave the rear stock height. Just looking to get the front up a bit to get rid of that rake.

without looking back through the 300 pages, for those of you running 6112 in second gen and getting 2 - 2.5 inches of lift, can I get some honest opinions how it feels? on road, off road, speed bumps, washboard. is it really as rigid as people say? Im looking at the 6112 5160 with RXT LP on mid level, but dont want to upgrade only to have my fillings rattled outta my teeth. leaf pack should give 2.25 lift so im wanting 2.5 upfront to keep small rake. I assume the rear will feel pretty supple, but have read when the 6112 are that clipped up they dont feel great. please help.

Okay good to hear. Youve got them on a second gen with 2+ inches of lift up front? Are you compensating for taco lean with spacers or higher clip?

Nice okay, I’m hoping to get 2.5. Not sure if that extra half inch would make a difference in ride quality. Also heard something about running 650# springs to help get a bit higher without sacrificing ride.

650# springs ride stiff even with weight. I’m working on going back to 600# springs once I pull a leaf out of my Deavers. I’m running a Hybrid bumper and Warn 10s up front.
