    Hello Everyone.
Everytime I get gas within 5 miles the check engine light comes on. I replaced the fuel cap but no change. I dread taking my truck to the dealership but with the check engine light on I lose the traction control and cruise control. I've reset the check engine light but it only lasts a day or two before coming back on. Could this be an oxygen sensor?

What code? Without knowing you'll never be able to solve it.

Do you also get an intermittent Track On light? I had a Duralast locking cap that would throw a CEL and Track On light. Don’t remember the trouble code.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

You need to read the codes before resetting, next time it happens post them here for some help.

You aren't "topping off" the tank by chance are you?
Modern vehicles are fill to the click and that is it, putting additional gas after the first click can put liquid gas in the vapor recovery system and will can result in an expensive repair.

Thank you all for the responses. The traction control and cruise control lights are the only ones that come on. I will in fact post the codes next time it happens.
And yes, an old Army habit of always topping off when fueling is what I do. Didn't realize this could cause an issue.

Yep, this right here... Not good to do on modern vehicles.

Could be an 02 sensor. You'd need to read the code.

I am. Of course when I want the check engine light to come on so I can get the code it won't. It's running just fine at the moment. I'm hoping it's just that oxygen sensor. Thanks for the response.
I will post the code when I check it

i got a locking gas and every so often the ! pops on the right screen and on the center it actually says gas cap..... so I have to take it out put it back on tighter and restart the truck....my tuck is a 2022 yours is a 2017 not sure if you have the screen that shows that.
but a truck that is 5 years old should not have the O2 sensor failing already unless you have like 200,000 miles on it

So here's the thing,...usually by now the check engine light has come back on. It hasn't. All I've done is tightened the cap every time before starting my truck.

Cheap test is to buy a new gas cap and use it to see if the check engine light comes on again or not.

    Hey TexasWhiteice,
I actually replaced the cap with a new locking cap but it didn't correct the problem. I've been tightening the old cap everytime before starting the truck and the check engine light has yet to come back on.

The code should be registered in the cpu's memory how many times it happened. Something doesn't sound right why your not seeing it.

Correct, the codes should be stored and retrievable even if the light has gone out. The codes do not erase themselves when the light goes out.
