ok guys this is where i am at, i really want a lift and if i get one i will be getting the bilstien 5100s, but here is the problem. my dad wont let me get one. i know i should just say screw it and do it anyway, but seeing as how i dont live on my own, i cant do it. he is saying that its going to mess up my truck, change angles, and things of that nature. so i need help supporting why it will not be bad to get a lift. and please i want to hear the worst story you have about how a lift screwed up your truck or someone elses.

    thanks

your angles can be off, which will create a takeoff shudder (vibes from 0-15mph). if you keep it at simply the billy 5100's, that will probably be the worst of your problems. that can also be fixed with an $11 part and about 15 min. let your dad know that you're not lifting it to a ridiculous height. the only time you get serious trouble is if you do lift it crazy high. 2.5" is minimal and has no serious issues.

if you're the one making payments or in ownership, do what you want; it's yours. if it's in his name and he's paying/payed for it, you better start showing him pics of awesome lifted tacos and showing him threads on here...or deal with stock height.

Tell him the originals shocks are worn out (they don't last forever) and need replacing anyway. Why not replace them with a set of 5100's that will improve the ride and give a little lift. If that doesn't work tell him that when the lift is done you will let him drive it around once in a while, even old farts like to look cool for the ladies!

i'd still listen to your dad. IDK about your dad, but my dad would beat the shit outta me for modifying any of his vehicles, especially after he told me not to.

Hes got a prerunner there are no angles to worry about. There is no diff in the front, so he doesnt need a diff drop. But a carrier barring drop would help with vibrations. But if its your dads truck i wouldnt lift it with out his approval. But tell him the shocks are worn out.

so since i have a pre runner there would be no need to worry about any angles? as long as its a rather small lift (2.5 or less)

Just the carrier barring drop will help with rear vibrations.

Yep once you get over 2.5 you have to start worrying about UCA's to get your alignment right.

can any one explain or provide a website that can explain the differences in a pre runner and nonpre runner and how a lift would effect them differently

he's old school ... anything that changes, is in essence, ruining it...

" Toyota spent billions of dollar's fine tuning their suspension parts to get their trucks to be the best in the world... and here you go... ruining it!!!" LooooL i love him to death though :)
