Buzzing… could it be a heat shield?

    few things here and there.
    Hey y’all.

    So I’m puzzled..

A few weeks ago I cut off my muffler because I’m an idiot. Thought I’d like the sound, didn’t at all. I ended up having a shop weld it back on yesterday, and all was good.. or so I thought.

This could be completely circumstantial, but all the sudden I am hearing a vibration / buzzing noise, and for the life of me cannot figure out where it’s coming from. This started literally on the way home from the shop.

Granted, it was loud without the muffler, but I’m pretty certain this noise would have still been heard. So, I’m left wondering if perhaps it’s an issue with the welds, inner pipe used for the weld to join the muffler, or a heat shield that suddenly started vibrating. Upon shaking, personal inspection I cannot get anything to rattle until I’m in the truck accelerating. If I accelerate slowly in cycle through all the gears it does not do it. It’s only when I give it some gas I notice it. It does not do it if I’m not giving it gas and just maintaining speed.

any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks for anything.

edit: Doesn’t do it in idle, or reviving on its own..

here’s the best video I could do lol. it’s pretty noticeable within 20 seconds.

If it's the heat shield, just put a metal screw clamp around it and see if it goes away.

see, mine appears solid. No play in it. So I’m unsure if that’s it. Should I try that anyway?

Same darn thing happened to mine. I put the same clamp around it, in fact I have two, yet it still makes the noise!

Check all your heat shields while you're under the truck. I've had a few of the bolts and bands rust out recently.

Update: was absolutely a heat shield… just not anywhere I was “hearing”. I feel so dumb. Lol.
