I love all of these comparisons between an ICE vehicle and an EV from people that have never actually owned, let alone driven, an EV it’s like having your non cell phone owning grandpa explain an iPhone to you.

Exactly, it's like people that don't own vinyl saying they've listened to music. Or people that use deodorant saying they know what its like to be one with the earth. I feel your vibe

That’s funny coming from someone like you, since you are obviously pro-analog.

Also I’ve heard that you don’t want to keep your record player plugged in at night because it might burst into flames.

It's like someone choosing to live a different lifestyle, and other people not wanting to live that same lifestyle.

It's exactly like that -- with the added bonus of one group telling the other group that their lifestyle doesn't actually work, will explode and kill their family while they sleep, etc. ;)

We all own Tacomas here. They're great trucks. Nobody is telling you to hang up your Tacoma keys. But some of y'all sure don't want anyone else to own any other vehicle. If an EV truck ain't for you or you just like truck go vroom vroom, more power to you and we couldn't care less. Feel free to move along to literally any other thread.

You’re not entirely wrong but when the majority of truck owners don’t use their truck to do real truck things it’s not much of a deal breaker.

How often do you have your truck loaded to the payload rating or with a trailer hooked up? For most people that’s maybe once or twice a month. The rest of the time it’s just an empty bed and hitch and used to simply get from point A to point B like any other vehicle.

FYI: It comes across as bragging. At least to me. I really don’t care what other vehicles you own. We’re comparing a Tacoma and Rivian here.

What do you do on those few days a month when you need to do truck things but your EV truck can’t do them?

Don’t buy the EV truck then, it doesn’t fit your needs. Same way you wouldn’t buy a Tacoma if you sometimes have to tow an 8000lb trailer a couple times a month.

I tried to find the actual study results rather than just article references but gave up. A survey of 250k truck owners shiwed the following:

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/26907/you-dont-need-a-full-size-pickup-truck-you-need-a-cowboy-costume

There’s also just the anecdotal evidence based of personal experience. I drive a truck but do not tow or haul daily. The vast majority of trucks I see on the road daily are also not towing or hauling.

I have never towed a trailer with my personal truck, last truck I bought I have yet to throw anything in the bed. Safe to say I don't need a truck 99% of time.

I like to take in consideration a trucks resale value, just because I'm not going to use all of the available payload of a truck. That does not mean the next owner won't

You only do that when you buy a truck?

No, but trucks was the topic. I can't recall consciously taking the same consideration with any other vehicle purchase.

That’s an OK reality now but may not be possible in the future. I was thinking I could live with an EV truck but now that I am more being more aware of my trips, range, hauling and towing I don’t think it will work. I think many others will find the same.

I guess I don’t understand the statement. Does that mean you looked at all of the available trucks and compared their resale value and payload capacity and then purchased the one that was “best” for the next buyer?

Why do you even own a truck then? Seems like you would be better with an SUV.
