Have to agree on the Andy Griffith. I've seen every episode at least 5-6 times.
And I still love watching them. It may be because Mayberry "Mount Airy" is just up the road about an hour so a lot of episodes sorta hit home.

    UPDATE:
I've been a assigned a case number and Case Manager by Toyota. I have requested an extended warranty due to the nature of the problem and the low miles on the truck.
Toyota's response was. We wont's say yes to your request at this time, but we're not saying no.
You drive approximately 7,000 miles/year so you'll reach the 5 year power train warranty limit before the mileage limit.
And being the truck is only a little over 2 years old. You have almost 3 years of powertrain coverage left on the truck.
That will give you 3 years to see if any issues arise from the repairs.
If they do, or possibly beyond. Then we can revisit the extended warranty request.

Not overly happy with "not at this time" answer. But Toyota is fulfilling its responsibility of repairing the truck.
Anyways I have a case and history now. So we'll see what the future brings.

Man... Toyota doesn't even trust their own repair process anymore.

Giving an extra warranty used to be the norm with internal engine repairs under warranty. Even GM gave me an extra drivetrain warranty after having issues with lifter failure.

I had a 2001 Highlander in which the transmission went out at 58,000 miles; 2,000 shy of the 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. They reluctantly repaired it under warranty, trying to say because it wasn't serviced at the original dealer, the warranty was contingent upon that. I made a big stick about it, and they repaired the transmission. But the repairs were done with an As-Is warranty. If the transmission shot craps the moment I drove it off the lot, it was all on me. I sold the vehicle shortly thereafter.

Not arguing here, just talking shop.. but the valve doesn't burn because of the compression leaking by, it burns because of inadequate cooling. The only time the valve face has a chance to cool is when it's closed, transferring heat through the valve seat to the water jackets in the head. If the valve seat/face is machined poorly it doesn't make good enough contact to transfer heat correctly. Hot spots develop and then it gets burned.

The tech either doesn't know this or he just explains it in this way to help customers understand valve damage..

Anyways, following along and hoping you get taken care of..

Sorry guys, but I am a believer that after a major repair hurry-up and SELL IT before it breaks again. Used vehicle values remain high.

A co-worker still has a Hyundai Elantra. There was a known problem with an engine issue, not sure if it was a recall or not. Well, his engine fell victim to that very issue but by that time there was 145,000 miles on the car. He asked, and Hyundai gave him a new engine anyway.

    Bummer but I suppose anticipated.

So the quoted labor is 22.5hrs per the prior screen shot? That’s pretty wild.

Well since he has time and mileage to go until the warranty runs out, and Toyota didn’t give him a hard no, they seem willing to wait and see, I’d say that’s not a reason to bash Toyota YET.

Well, today is the estimated day I pick ye ole' Taco up. So I stopped by the gas station yesterday afternoon to put my
loaner Carola back at 1/2 tank like it was when I picked it up. It was sitting on almost empty and I was expecting the
light to come on at any time. Gas was about $3.59/gal so I thought about $25 ought to put it back to half a tank.
    Boy was I wrong.

Let us know how the truck is and what the invoice says they did when you pick it up.

Yeah I could see if he was near end of warranty they extend it another 30k miles or 3 years being he doesn’t drive it that much.

My repaired/replaced transmission from honda failed 100k and years after the repair. To bad they repaired it with the same unfixed parts.

I’m seriously considering switching brands this is not the Toyota of the past. When similar happened to my 16 I was only at 10k miles, 8 year / 125k mile platinum warranty complimentary no questions asked.

Toyota hasn't been the same Toyota that a lot of us remember from years gone by. They've cheapened many products while riding the coattails of their past, IMHO.

That's just how Hyundai is. My sister bought a used Hyundai Sonata years ago, no warranty etc.. Well motor blew up or something a couple months ago, she took it to the dealer and they looked at it and called her back a day later saying "we've got your engine on the way, you'll have the car back in a week". She says woah wait, I can't pay for a new engine. They said you don't have to, it's part of our warranty.

It's been making me consider getting one just for that kind of warranty.

    Beancounter syndrome...

Cutting expenses until they start to underperform for loyal customers, not meeting consumer expectations. This has killed a lot of businesses. Radio Shack, ToysRus, Kmart/Sears.

Somebody in top management has sold the idea that short term profits are more important than long term viability.
