    Busted head gasket?

    Cracked frame?

    500,000 miles?

    5 mpg?

More than $1000 to repair a single issue?

Subjective question. What is YOUR breaking point for your truck?

LOL... It's not a subjective question.

Need more details about the truck, otherwise I have no idea what the breaking point is.

Is it 4wd or a prerunner?
    Is it a 4cyl or a 6 cyl?
    Manual or Auto?
Is it a standard cab, access cab, double cab?
Is it bone stock or have there been modifications to it?
    Where is the truck located?

If it's a standard cab 4 cyl, prerunner... take it to the dump already.

If it's a double cab, 6 cyl, 4wd... well then, there might be some room to figure things out.

The intent wasn't to ask for help, but to get an idea of when 1st gen owners would get rid of their 20+ yo trucks.

Aaaaand again... It depends on what truck.

My truck... I'd happily fix all of the above issues. A bone stock standard cab prerunner, with a cracked frame and 4 cyl head gasket... would probably go to the dump.

So, at what point WILL you get rid of your truck instead of putting in the effort/money to keep it going?

Wife ~ "So what do you have left, for the truck to be done?"
Me ~ "Babe, there is no "done" with the truck. The only "done" there will ever be, is it gets totaled. At that point... if and when I get out of the hospital, it will only be the beginning of the next truck."

AND... depending on the damage. A total wouldn't necessarily be the end. It may just get a salvage title and become a true trailered trail rig, at that point.

I had a nice clean 2003 double cab for about 2 years. In that 2 years I had to put an alternator, radiator, valve cover gaskets, MAF sensor, tires, and some other stuff I'm forgetting. I could have kept going but really wanted a long bed double cab. I saw a 2020 like I wanted and traded. Haven't missed the 1st gen since although it was a good truck.

I've spent more on the truck, in the last 3-4 years, than I paid for the truck (total) 19 years ago.

I just sold my 2004 access cab after 18 years and 175k miles later. She served me well and hauled a lot for me over years. The final straw was the rusted rear differential cover leaking. Was sad watching her drive away, I'll miss the ole girl.

@5efvz how about at the point when you call it quits and no longer ask TacomaWorld members to bring you a rock?
