Actually, he was never behind me. He was sitting at the red light in the left lane and I pulled up caddy-corner to him in the right lane, so like I said this was probably an isolated incident; I am such a nice guy that I would still give him a jumpstart when shitbox VW breaks down...

In like September 2020, I was driving North on Route 611 and there was this college-age girl in Subaru behind me, riding my ass in the right lane. I had magnets on the back of my truck that she didn't agree with, and we came to a section of road where it split off in two directions; I have no way of knowing why she was so pissed off, but considering the magnets I had on my tailgate and a number of other factors, the magnets seem like the most likely culprit.

I went straight and she turned right, but there was a brief section period where she was next to me. I saw her driver's window going down, and I was listening to Queen; I have a powerful stereo, so I just cranked it up loud enough that I wouldn't be able to hear anything she said.

We ended up next to each other, and she just glared at me before continuing to the right.

And one of my favorite incidents also took place on 611; I don't remember when this happened, but it was after we moved into the new house and before COVID, so it could have been anytime between March 2016 and the end of 2019...

I was behind a "left lane camper" in an early 2000s Chevy Impala, and I couldn't pass him because there were people in the right lane; I became frustrated and beeped because he was going slow enough to create a hazard. Nothing noteworthy took place until I finally got into the right lane and passed him; I ended up at a red light in the right lane, and I happened to glance in my rear view mirror and notice that the front passenger window was going down. There were two people in the Impala, a black woman driving and a white guy riding shotgun...

The guy looked pissed. My dash cam is mounted on a swivel, and I pointed it to the left as the Impala rolled up next to me. I didn't roll down my window, and I had my sunglasses on; I tapped my dashcam as I gave the guy a "Really?" stare, and they took off like a bat out of hell when they realized anything they had to say would be recorded...

Words can't even begin to describe how happy
I am that the CDC was forced to drop the mask mandate on public transportation before we flew out to California.

I am not anti-mask, and if people choose to wear masks everywhere, it's their decision; I laugh when I'm driving and I see person alone in their car wearing a mask, though...

Everybody knows that I have a high-functioning form of autism called Aspergers Syndrome, and everyone on the autism spectrum has sensory issues of some sorts. Several of my friends with AS do not mind wearing masks, my one friend Doug who has AS absolutely hates them, and my friend Anna who is on the spectrum is terrified of
N95 masks because she they make her feel closed in.

I do not have claustrophobia, but when I took a second job at Spirit Halloween last year, I had to wear a mask on the floor at all times. That really pushed me over the edge with regards to mask mandates, especially since I was fully vaccinated against COVID by the time I took that job.

Even if the mask doesn't cause my glasses to fog up (which it almost always does), I feel like I'm having a hard time breathing after several minutes; I initially wore a mask in the airport just to humor my mom, but walking around made wearing it incredibly burdensome and I took it off.

I did not wear a mask once while I was in California, and all of my relatives not only respected my decision, but understood with my reasons for not doing so.

As I stated above, I am vaccinated and mostly healthy (I say "mostly" because I'm overweight, I have psoriasis, and I have blood pressure issues); I am not sedentary, however, and I run on the elliptical in my basement a few times a week. If I am in a hospital or in a small space with with someone who is severely immunocompromised, then I can understand wearing a mask, but at this point I refuse to wear one in my day-to-day life and am willing to take a calculated risk.

I’ll wear a mask if asked. I don’t have anything against it.

But I don’t wear one if it’s not mandatory. If I were married and had children and had to be financially responsible for others. Then maybe I’d give it more consideration. But I’m single and no kids. If I die off tomorrow. adiós, amigo

One of my biggest fears before the mask mandates on planes was lifted in April was getting into a confrontation with a Karen passenger or an overzealous flight attendant for not wearing my mask properly. My cousin recommended that I take a Xanax before flying, as she had been doing for years, even before COVID; I consulted with my doctor and he thought it was a good idea, so he prescribed it...

I took it once to test my reaction, and ended up not needing it on the flight to California or the flight back home; I got into so many confrontations with perfect strangers over masks in 2020 and 2021 that I lost count. The most noteworthy incident was in June 2020, when I almost decked another customer in Mission BBQ; Mission BBQ never enforced mask mandates, but I was initially wearing one anyway that day. I took it down below my nose so I could place my order with the girl behind the counter without fogging up my glasses.

A guy in his early 20s, a perfect stranger, came up behind me and got in my face to tell me I should wear my mask properly. Pandemic or no pandemic, getting into the personal space of an Aspie is a very bad idea. He was wearing a mask, but he violated the 6-foot rule.

After establishing that he was a busybody customer and not an employee, I told him first to "mind his own damn business"...

When he didn't heed that advice, I told him to fuck off...

I was seconds away from giving the guy a black eye or a fat lip when the general manager of the restaurant saw what was about to about to happen and intervened. He got between us and made the other leave, since he already had his takeout order.

The manager said, and I quote, "We're not the mask police. We are just here to serve great barbecue."

Once again, I would like everybody tagged in this post to respond and offer their opinion...

My parents say that I have problem with authority, and you know what? I admit it; I will freely and without coercion admit that I have a problem with authority.

It's been that way probably since preschool, but various incidents that started occurring in middle school and continue to this day have exacerbated these feelings. I believe that it is possible to have a problem with authority, and even engage in civil disobedience, while still being a law-abiding citizen; I have never been arrested and I don't have any kind of police record.

The first time I ever got a detention was in 6th grade, in February 2001. My crime was repeatedly wearing a plain gray zip up hooded sweater into class after being told to leave it in my locker. My math teacher cited post-Columbine safety concerns, and my reason for wearing it was not to defy my teacher, but because it was winter in the Northwest and I'd simply forget I was wearing the damn thing. Strangely enough, no other teacher at that school or at any other school ever gave a shit about me wearing hoodie in class...

In November 2002, in 8th grade, I was got two days out-of-school suspension for "assaulting" a kid who repeatedly bullied me.

In March 2013, I was stopped by police in Doylestown for the high crime of taking pictures, and interrogated by half the police department for twenty minutes.

There have been so many incidents between 2002 and 2022 that I've lost count, and the overwhelming majority of them resulted from someone pushing me too far and causing me blow my stack. A large number of the incidents I had between 2009 and 2016 were directly related to taking pictures of something out of the ordinary, and I didn't get angry because the other party asked me what I was doing; I always got angry because that other person came in hot and acted like they'd caught me taking a picture of their underage kid in a bathing suit, rather than their car or their air-conditioner.

Then there were the various rent-a-cops at my college and various who malls who'd act like they caught me selling weed or vandalizing property when all I was doing was taking pictures.

The incidents that were not the result of taking pictures of a vehicle were initiated when the other party was an asshole right out of the gate, and because they were hostile to me, it put me on edge and I was hostile right back purely because I felt backed into a corner.

I've made a personal pact to be the best person I can be, and using my likable personality to network and make friends, in some cases with people who are influential in the community or have connection. On the rare occasion that I fuck up, I use connections and call in favors.

Damn impressive, any pics of the two wheeled machines?

Same reason my friend who is from NY won't put a Yankees sticker on his car, some people are asses enough to vandalize it

Sure I’ve been unjustly stopped and questioned. And I didn’t particularly like it. But in the end I have , so far, always been let go.

And I guess being 5’9” and weighing 130 lbs didn’t help. I work out doors and get dirty, I can’t help I look like a crackhead at times. But it is what it is, I can say, now I weigh about 145 lbs. People don’t seem to eyeball me like they used to.

Or maybe they never did, or maybe they still do and I just don’t notice it.

But I’ve been detained more than once for suspension. None of which was called for.

I'm 5'11" and I was probably 250 at the time I got stopped by the police. The issue was at almost 24 years old, I had NEVER had a run-in with police, EVER. I did get pulled over once I was 17 when I still had a learner's permit, but that was a different scenario. I finally got my driver's license in May 2011, and didn't get pulled over for the first time until May 2017; I had never dealt with police prior to the March 2013 photography incident, and to have four cops interrogating me by the side of the road for 20 minutes still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Combine that with the fact that I've ended up with two expensive tickets for minor driving offenses in that same jurisdiction, and the second time the cop tried to intimidate me into just paying the ticket instead of going to court, and I really don't like the Doylestown police.

They were the Doylestown Borough Police Department until they merged with Chalfont Borough Police Department in early 2014 and formed the Central Bucks Regional Police Department. They were the Doylestown Borough Police when I got stopped for taking pictures of old victorian houses in March 2013, but when I was stopped in May 2017 and January 2019 respectively, they were the Central Bucks Regional Police; I believe that the New Britain Police may have merged with the CBRD at some point, but I am not entirely sure. The Doylestown Township PD is a completely different entity.

Again, I 100% back the blue, but I really do not like the CBPRD as a whole because of the encounters listed above...

Perhaps a bit off-topic but I'll contribute briefly..

IMO everyone has the ability to choose how they react. There are [few] times that do require a combative response. The majority of interactions can be explained/de-escalated without causing further risk of cost/harm/regret.

The world around us seems to be providing a higher percentage of a**holes than it used to but take a deep breath and let the small stuff go. You'll live longer. All it takes is one timely punch to face decades in prison, financially catastrophic costs or perhaps just a burden of regret.

I never have any of that kind of crap happen to me but I am also a courteous driver and leave my ego at home. I’m sure it will someday no matter how nice I am. I do have people ride my ass a lot and I go 5 over the speed limit most of the time. If I’m in the right lane, I just slow down until they pass.

The mask police are always interesting individuals. Glad those times are almost over.

Also, merging two moderately-sized police departments into one huge has the potential for numerous problems; The Doylestown Borough PD was known for being very picky about the officers it hired, while Chalfont wasn't...

A Chalfont cop by the name of Clifford Horn, who became a CBRPD cop after the merger, was picked up in a sting operation in New Jersey in the summer of 2021. He was allegedly meeting up with an underage boy to get a blowjob. Thankfully, the little boy was nonexistent, the creation of a nonprofit that specialized in catching child molesters. Horn was one of four people arrested in the sting operation after communicating with the nonexistent child. He was 54 at the time, and married with a daughter, and he also lives right around the corner from a good friend of mine. Unfortunately, I cannot find any updates on the case, but I do not believe he has been convicted or even gone to trial yet. He was suspended from the police force after the news broke, and while searching Google for information I found an obituary for someone named Clifford Horn; I was thinking that maybe he committed suicide or something, but then I realized the dead guy was slightly older and in Alabama.

But yeah, a pedophile somehow made it onto a police department in my area!

I think all of us have at least some aversion to authority whether from our upbringings. from early exposure to an over authoritarian teacher or superior at work, bad experience with law enforcement, or possibly just some imagined slight we perceived that may not have even existed.

That being said, i have had issues on a few occasions when taking pictures of things. I do motorcycle endurance rallies. think scavenger hunt with a camera. I have been approached by MPs at the entrance to a military base where all I was doing was taking a picture of the entrance sign with my bike in the picture. I was approached by 2 MPs, one quite friendly, the other with her hand on her service weapon and asked what I thought I was doing. I explained the purpose of my visit, offered my digital camera to the friendly one and explained what I was photographing. He was real cool and asked me to show him ALL of the pics on my memory card for security reasons and I obliged him. He explained there were certain items on that base that should NOT be photographed, even if accidentally but I was good to go. Once he saw I was doing exactly what I said and nothing more he even offered to take a pic for me with me in it. The female MP never so much as cracked a smile and I think would have tased me given half a chance. LOL. I fully understand that in a post 9/11 society security around certain places is heightened and I respect that.

People really don't have any right to expect privacy when in public yet common sense can avoid a lot of trouble. If I had kids and saw someone taking pictures of them I would want to know why. I think it's important to keep in mind when you are taking pictures of something that a person on the other side of that camera can't see what you're focused on and if approached an open and casual approach could help deescalate a potentially bad situation. Explain your subject matter and offer to show them if you feel it's really their business. I've found most people are decent and if handled politely they usually reciprocate.

I personally believe that it's a combination of social media and being in a pandemic for two years, among numerous other things. People are going crazy!

Charlie , your getting some great advice from people who have been around the block a couple of times , I will also say there are times to question and times to open up and by far its better to relax and open up and talk about it because most people will do the same back to ya. Hope that makes sense. Got to get back to work. Hang in there buddy.
