The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID)

I’ll post some more in a bit. It’s red box. The bulb says Germany on it. Wild to think how a bulb is designed in Germany potently made in China and then sold in the US

Osram has German and China manufacturing facilities, as does Philips. Hella contracts out to both Korea and China. The German made bulbs are also available in China in addition to their domestically produced ones.

My bet is supply chains are a mess, product availability on those has been spotty, the vendor has been out of stock for a while and likely found some German bulbs to import from China instead of Europe.

 

I ordered some also and the boxes from the new ones match perfectly with the boxes from the ones I bought 2 or 3 years ago.

 

Any idea what I did wrong. Just put in the new harness and lights. The DRL come on but not the headlights

 

Are both relays in?

 

Disregard. My dumbass forgot to connect the negative relay to the battery.

Howdy! Has anyone had success ordering quality headlamp assemblies? From RockAuto? Amazon? Reading some of the reviews on Amazon got me worried about quality, leaking, etc. My 2010 TRD Sport headlamps are cracked and fogged. I'm going for an OEM look. Is ordering the assemblies from Toyota the best way?

 

Simple answer: Yes

 

As mentioned OEM is the way to go. However for early 2nd Gens, last was checked the TSB smoked chrome version of the lamp was unavailable, leaving only the pre-fixed version that has the melting DRL issue. That might not be true for the bright chrome versions.

 

So the Pro version isn’t available? Been trying to get a set since the dealer ruined mine.

 

The smoke chrome Pro is available for 2012+. For 05-11 there are TSB lights and pre-TSB lights. Last I heard the smoked chrome 05-11 TSB lights were unavailable, and if ordering them the dealer may sub the pre-TSB lights.

 

Got it, Thanks See, thing is they never released a ‘15 Pro in Canada so gettin’ a set has been close to impossible. Contemplating a state side trip right soon.

 

If doing that, order them to the closest dealer across the border and then pick them up in person.

@crashnburn80 , did you ever compare performance of the 05-11 vs 12-15 reflectors? Are the differences negligible?

 

12-15 are supposed to have better performing updated reflectors. I have not tested any 05-11 versions for comparison.

 

Sorry if this has been answered, which harness do I get if my 09 tacoma headlights has the DRL signal bulbs?
