    Cheap insurance!

The average generator has a THD of 15-20%. I keep reading articles back and forth about the impact of THD on equipment. Some people say it destroys everything, others say it's a myth outside of small circuit boards.

    https://www.championpowerequipment.com/product/100520-8750-watt-open-frame-inverter/

This is what I've got, THD of 3% so I don't have to worry about it. I've got an interlock switch rather than a transfer panel which I like since it gives me flexibility. I won't be able to run my Mitsubishi Hyperheat system for AC but it will run my fridge, furnace and freezer, so I'm golden.

Just like @MikeyMcFly said..I reckon if you buy it and it means you don't lose power, that's the ideal situation!

Totally get that, my wife has back issues and any flat shoes will really not be good for her.

Curious, what job sends you in barefoot?

I mean I'm sure I probably coded at least once in my partying years so....

Class of 1991 but I graduated early.

Residential AV tech/installer, work is split between new construction builds and the odd service call or time and materials job at which point I'm walking in a finished home. Was in finished homes way more when I was still in NY since we rarely did new construction back then

When I graduated high school Microsoft had just been founded, the floppy disk did not exist, Apple had not yet released their first computer, I watched the premier of Saturday Night Live and at your local Ford dealer $2895 sent you home at the wheel of a new Pinto

I work construction, they make these boot covering things that are disposable. They're very light, elastic top and slip over your boots or sneakers. We use them when working in active lab spaces so they do a very good job of keeping anything that's on the boots, actually inside the slip on thing. If you're looking for a cheap solution, you could throw a box of those in your truck. That way you could leave your shoes on and not irritate any home owners. Our boiler service guys actually wore them in my house last time I had it serviced so it seems to be a thing now.

Yeah good point. We can live without the dryer, I mainly want to be able to run the heat and fridge. If we can get those, I'm happy. I'm sure in a couple years time I will be cursing not getting the A/C running. Maybe I'll size one to run heat, fridge, a couple lights, and a window unit. Now I need to have a think on it

I have one of them start t-stats, wouldn't want to fry that since it controls the heat.

$$$$ but probably makes sense. That said, we have a 1200 sq ft house and NG hot water/oven+stove. So, might be able to get away with something a lot smaller.

Happens. Summers are bananaland. Come winter you'll be sitting there on Jan 14th going "WHERE ARE PEOPLE!?!?!"

Some ass hat shared something on facebook - I don't remember which day it was, but let's say about a week ago at this point, that it was the last >8PM sunset until May 2023. WHO POINTS SUCH A THING OUT!?

I hate August. It's so depressing. Don't get me wrong, Jan/Feb is actually, but in August you have kids going back to school, sunsets getting earlier, college move-in days (a guy I'm in a stock market BS chat with is dropping a kid today actually). All that "summer is ending" feeling stuff happening. NO BUENO.

Fortunately this year we have a trip to the Caribbean planned in February. We were actually there right before the bonkers of 2020, then in '21 I went out to LA in March so that was a nice break from the cold. But 2022 we sat around and got cold.

The first iphone came out when I was a freshman if I remember correctly. By senior year, "smart phones" were commonplace, but it was also commonplace NOT to have one. I had one of these bad larries
    upload_2022-8-12_8-20-1.jpg

By Sr. year of college, smart phones had become the norm and I had one - Galaxy S5.

....And I still have that phone. I don't use it, but it still ticks all my boxes for what I need. I THINK it doesn't have a wallet/NFC feature but could be wrong on that. Otherwise it has wifi/bluetooth/etc, so, 2010-2015 did a lot more for phones than 2015-2022 did. In my mind.

.....clearly, Mr. Farts is not feeling very "worky" today.

@GarlicFarts yeah man I describe August as the Sunday of months. Even though we no longer have to go back to school its still got that feeling

 We don't have to go back to school BUT I get home from work at 5 (used to) and the sun sets a lot sooner than it does in July for riding, taking the dog out, etc. Now I get home around 3-3:30 depending on the day so that's a lot better :D

PS - You around labor day weekend? North Maine Woods.

So aptly said. And my wife was an elementary school teacher so even as adults it always had that back to school vibe for us through the years.

On a somewhat similar note as to Sunday, I was asked once when it finally sunk in that I'd retired and it wasn't just a long vacation. Few months in I was watching 60 Minutes...and it finally hit me. For so many years the familiar "tick, tick, tick" of the 60 Minutes clock meant the weekend was over and back to is my homework done, the paper the must be turned in, the quiz tomorrow and then later tomorrow is a workday, I've got that project deadline, that useless meeting, the emails, employee reviews to finish, MY review to stress over......and then finally came that magical Sunday night
