Learn em' all! They say most of the things you do on a job is learned on the job, rather than traditional training. Trial and error is what I've always done.

Maybe you can fix my sliders one day!

    Fix?

You mean cut them off and put fresh welds

We could already do that, mild steel is easy. It's stainless that I've done with 3 processes but not much with either.

How do you feel about those cheap Multi process machines? We have a lincoln machine at work that does MIG, TIG, and Stick. But it's collecting dust, because we use the Miller MIG instead.

Congrats. I'm with the others. If you're not concerned a bit about the lower pay, the closer job with better hours seems the way to go. Only you can make that decision though.

Thats great! There's plenty of jobs out there for welding, I'm sure you can circle back around to stainless later.

The socket I would use could barely fit past the bearing and was a shorty so once inside you just tilt a little and then you could bang out the opposite bearing. In my day it was a little harder to get Park tools like now. You had to think smarter and cheaper.

I'll tell you what I've told others; it's the welder not the welder.

I've welded with nice machines, and cheap ones. Aside from an "odd" feeling gun, or cheap looking machine, a welder will still do its job.

Why do you need a multiprocessor? Nothing wrong with them but I don't know of anyone that'd stick weld for fun if they don't or never did it professionally.

And if you wanted it for TIG, just buy a dedicated TIG welder that can do both AC/DC so you can weld aluminum as well.

My welder brother used one of those chinese yeswelders to weld up the frame on my taco. He wanted to see how it would do. It did the job.

One guy last year brought in a cheap yeswelder stick welder.

I got to mess with it and it still laid down nice beads. The fan was always on but that's it.

I keep looking at those, they seem super reasonable and very well liked with good customer service.

I think what you're paying for with the high end welders is longevity and repairability. Was talking to the counter guy at praxair last time and he said he really liked the vulcan welders, which are made in India and sold by HF, but none of their repair people can get parts for them. Where as they can get miller and lincoln parts all day long.
