good to know about the 34, I'm not set on a 36 so we will see what I find haha. I'm set on 4 piston though, not sure that I need them but when I first starting riding I rode some sketchy stuff with terrible brakes and I will never get over that so I go for the best brakes I can now haha.
yeah extra batteries are key for AXS...

I did a gravel race a few weeks ago, came in a little hot on a right hand turn and slid out, I didn't hit the ground but my bike did...I was so mad that my right lever and derailleur got a little scratched up haha

Just to add some contrast , I've had absolute shite luck with Sram chains. I've been though several $65 X01 chains, now I just use the $35 XT chain which I've never had an issue with even on the E-bike.
    Dont... Neeed... It....

Strange. I haven't really seen many issues with them.

This is lab data which, of course, doesn't always factor into real life but it tracks with what I've seen come through the shop.

    upload_2022-8-12_11-11-22.jpg

Nothing wrong with XT chains of course. The price is certainly right. But a friend and I have tracked our chain usage quite carefully for a while (him much more meticulously than I) and found that with the longevity of Sram chains over cheaper chains you still come out ahead if you go by $/km. They've been cheaper in the long run.

Depends on your drivetrain, use, conditions, lubing/cleaning, etc. though.[/QUOTE]

Those chains had blown up well before $/km came into play. Shit happens I guess, I am otherwise a clean freak when it comes to my drivetrain.

    Just a snapped chain?

I know my latest mountain bike came with an XT chain. Snapped it in the first two kilometers of a ride. Shit truly does happen. JRA actually does happen. Ha

Well, I've fallen completely into a rabbit hole.

I was looking at getting a child seat for my daughter. I was planning on using my 2016 Niner Air9 Carbon for the steed.

Well, the one I want needs 20mm of spacers under the stem to mount it. I don't have any bikes with that.....

I started looking at 2022 Pikes, because if I need a new fork, might as well get a Pike.

I can get a silver Pike for $93 less than a black one, but I'm not stoked on the idea of a silver fork on my black and white bike.

BUT, silver forks look awesome on Ti bikes.....

Now I've discovered that both Lynskey and Litespeed are having summer sales.

Anybody looking for a sweet road bike? I've gotta fund this new endeavor!

Wow - sweet graph! Assuming true data I've always heard the expensive chains are worth it but hard to prove

I suppose I should post the source instead of a random chart. Zero Friction has put a ton into chains and lubes. Pretty much the main reason so many are waxing their chains these days.

    https://zerofrictioncycling.com.au/chaintesting/

Of course...lab testing. We don't ride in labs but it's a good basis.

Long time coming, finally got the Fox Factory fork in. Have about 150 miles on the new Schwalbe Nobby Nics (29x2.4) and I'm liking them a lot. Came from a few sets of Vittorias I was mostly happy with and may stick with Schwalbe for a little while.

Almost at the time of replacing the chain and likely the cassette since it's gone through two chains now. Would like to go XX1 if I can find them.

IF you buy frame they will knock 20% off a wheelset of your choice and handlebar stem combo. That's what guys in the MTBR Arrival thread were saying.

I ride my set up in Moab (e.g., Captain Ahab, HyMasa, Porcupine Rim) and do not have any issue (XT with 180 rotors) - sorry you had some sketchy brakes in the past

Fruita is sweet, Durango ditto "sooooo much to ride" - you need to also consider Phil's World and Phil's North just to the west of Durango - almost to Cortez. I am out in Moab end of Sept/early Oct

My vote is for Durango. I did a shuttle of Hermosa creek and finished at my campsite right next to the trailhead. Hermosa creek was damaged by the 416 fire but it’s still almost 20 miles of downhill with a climb at the end.

If you were to buy a bike for a beginner (this is for my wife - who has enjoyed the single track rides I’ve taken her on with her old school 26”) knowing that it would need to be a bit of an all around bike, mellow trails, some trails to grow on, but also knowing there could be a trip or two a year of bike packing mixed in, what would you buy? Hard tail or full suspension? And, I’ll say that I know the cost between the two is can be quite different. I’ve found entry level FS and entry hard tail, but also found a few steps up in a hard tail that I like. And I’m also considering that the FS will provide some cushion for her as well and perhaps keep her on the bike more.

But, trying to determine what would be best for the rides I describe above. Any thoughts? I know it’s an beaten question, but maybe some of you have gone through this in the past? Thanks for the help.

My daughter goes to school in Durango - the town is fun! So much to do. And lots of riding. I’m a beginner still, and Twin Buttes loop is fun, but If you are looking for tech, I thought it was fun and the downhill was a little techy but I think it’s more on the beginner side. Raiders Ridge - that is tech! And getting up to it is a steep, short climb on either side of the ridge.

There are various shuttles around, like Hermosa, which I’ve had my eye on but just haven’t done it. We stay at Purgatory most of the time and I’d like to loop that ride. But,. I can ask a buddy I’ve met up there for suggestions as well if needed. either way, it’s a fun place to hang out and ride.
