Recovery point for 1Gen

Can anyone suggest front recovery points for the 1st gen Tacoma? Most sellers only list products for the 2nd and 3rd gens. Thank you.

 

Did you even look at your ARB bumper?

 

There's a ton offered for 2nd and 3rd gens because of the whole marketing term "Overland" blowing up these last 5 years.

Newest 1st Gen is 18 years old.

 

Yeah can use the bumper points all right. Any rear ones? Most interesting one I have seen so far is the Factor 55 Hitchlink. Probably can mill one out of 6061. Wanna go the soft shackles way.

 

Aftermarket front bumper is the recovery point

The hook factory hook on the bottom of the frame can be used but it will pull the frame rail. Ask me how I know

 

This is a bit like "gravel" in bicycling. When I was a kid all bikes were gravel-ready, we just didn't know to call them that way. Now it's thousands of dollars in a new bike.

I've personally used one of those and it's worked really well.

Always comes with me when I go wheeling; used to go everywhere with me in my other vehicles.

Please get yourself a damper to throw on whatever strap you intend to use. Mine comes with me as part of my recovery kit.

 

Agreed, and thanks for the idea, I am determined to get two dampers since watching Ronny Dahl's youtube videos. I am on a business trip and binge watching them in the hotel room

 

Don't know who that is, but reading up (and watching) about the implementation of safety gear is really important.

Doesn't seem like you need anything else, especially with having a winch.

Quality tires, with a means of airing down and up; got that covered?

Got a trailer receiver? Get you a shackle to stick in there like previously mentioned. Front has a factory tow hook, or any aftermarket bumper should have shackle mounts and/or a front hitch receiver

 

Ronny Dahl is a guy from (Western) Australia who makes some excellent intro to overlanding videos. There is a lot of great overlanding in Africa and Australia, the main difference being the latter have money and thus lots of companies making excellent gear. ARB is but one of them. Those series 79 LandCruiser UTEs are sweet as can be. I am not sure if they do other activities like rock crawling on a large scale; I simply don't know.

 

Looked him up; yeah seen some of his expedition videos posted here and there throughout the forum.

Those guys out there go on real expeditions.

 

Depends on just how deep the rear axle is buried I like to use the two J hooks around the axle.

With the front it is most often the bumper hard points when the bumper sits on the ground.

He has an ARB bumper, something not mentioned in this thread.

But those look like a nice bolt on set for those running a factory bumper.
