Transmission cooler line issue

    Hey all,

    I was on my way back from the corner store in my 2011 Tacoma v6. And I felt a little bit of a shudder on acceleration. I made it home and it didn't do it again. But after looking around underneath it and finding a fair amount of ATF from the front to to middle cross member I found a corroded spring clip on one of the front transmission lines that has apparently been leaking at a steady drip when the motor is running. My question is ( as an ameteur who specializes in brake jobs and wheel bearings): can I throw a new hose clamp on the line and top of the ATF and drive it until the shop opens on Monday? Or should I have it towed to the only shop open on Saturday (the dealership)? It seems like it's been leaking for at least a few days and I have no idea how much fluid is lost.

    Just lookin’ at that I’d go full meal deal & change the oil completely after repair. Why mess with it again when you’re already there. As far as drivin’ it that’s your call. Only you know how bad it’s starvin’ for oil. It’s all damage control now ‘til you decide how to go.

    Thanks, I guess what I'm more worried about is trying this repair in the driveway, as I'm not really familiar with transmission lines. If it was power steering I'd be in business . This old truck is my only method of transportation and I'd hate to miss something crucial and have a bunch of shop mechanics laughing at my botched repair. Most of the instructions on it seem pretty simple. But in my experience, transmission work is usually anything but simple.

    It looks to me like the steel line has rusted through and is leaking and not the hose.
    I wouldn't drive it far, if it's low on fluid and/or that leak gets worse you could damage your transmission.

    I think a clamp would not help you the steel lines are corroded . I would not take it to a dealership a local garage would be my choice. I would also apply cavity wax there once the job is completed on an annual basis. I use Amsoil heavy duty metal protector on that line and the entire frame. G.L.

    Unfortunately I have to take it to a dealer. My guy is booked for a couple of weeks. Bright side is the rental from the dealer is a third of the cost of enterprise. I just can't wait to get it fixed, as it's my daily. I'm hoping to get away under 800 bucks but we'll see. I like the tip about the Amsoil wax. I'll definitely be trying that out once I get it home.
