When initially looking I was interested in the SR but the wife insisted on the SR5.
    She's always right.
    ALWAYS.

She taught me a long time ago:
A person who knows HOW to do a thing will always have a job.
A person who knows WHY to do a thing will always be the boss.

Trust me, from plumbing to electrical to framing to cooking to sewing to building to designing...
    she knows WHY

    And, she's always right... ALWAYS

Just to clear up the TPMS question and what you get with aftermarket stuff on an SR. These things dont matter to me as much as having a better sounding stereo that worked with the factory buttons but they were nice additions.

I needed height adjustable seats for the Wife, so it was SR5/TRD/Limited for me.

After some additional calls and research, it turns out to be true... you can no longer custom build a '22 Tacoma, and 6' bed 4x4's are no longer available. Also, the trim packages are being installed at the Gulf States Distribution Center and are not very flexible, meaning that if the one you want comes with running boards, all they can do is physically remove them... you're still going to pay for them.

That being said, I went ahead and put down a "Good Faith" deposit with the dealer to get the process started of locating a white SR5 4x4.

Many thanks for all the great feedback here, it is much appreciated!

Also, I came across a thread or post somewhere in here that had a great source of free/cheap mods, but cannot find it... anyone know what I'm talking about?

Probably a good move. From what I’m seeing you can’t get the double cab with the 6 foot bed and an SR. Only the 5 foot bed. Which is weird as SR are many times bought as work utility vehicles.
Normally I would actually prefer to not have power seats but having the power seat allows you to lower the seat level so that you’re a little over an inch further away from the ceiling which is great for someone who’s taller. Super worth It to me.

Also, not entirely true about the runningboards and whatever else they feel like putting on come on it and you have no choice about paying for them.
Did you and the manager sign a cost breakdown sheet like this? With your deposit, they should be telling you exactly what you will pay. Sounds like they are saying that they have no idea what will be added. Not true.

If you notice the overpriced tint and pinstripes on mine, those were dealer added options we negotiated to leave on. They were giving me about 3000 over KBB trade in value so I was OK with them. The point is don’t let them tell you one price and then the truck comes in and they add a bunch of dealer options.
Also, while the dealers can add runningboards as one of their options, a lot of times things like running boards, paint protection, Toyoguard(STE, ugh) and other things are port options that get added after coming from the factory when they get into the region. From what I understand the southeast Toyota and Gulf states are the worst about port options because they are independent. The dealer CAN tell them to leave all the port options off. They did it for me. I got a completely base Offroad with absolutely zero options or port add ons. But in this climate I don’t know that they would be willing to do that. Again though, the point is that they do know what will be added. Don’t let the truck come in and they say oh darn it added $1500 worth of options at the port.

I beg your pardon sir that is totally unnecessary. The fact that I respect my wife gives you or nobody else the right to make totally false assumptions.

4x4 6ft bed access cabs are available in SR and SR5, local dealer advertises them. Are you talking about dual cabs perhaps?

Chastaco is exactly correct. I was able to delete several GST port installed options originally on my build sheet. I took delivery of my new TRD OR on Aug. 9 with the exact options I wanted. A good / great dealer can still absolutely make changes, but many (if not most) are just too lazy to put forth the effort in today’s market where everything sells.

Yes, dual cab 6' beds are apparently no longer being built and all are accounted for. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but I have already found one contradiction from what the salesman has told me about a vehicle that is still in transit... it's an SR that I am not really interested but necessitates further explanation and we are meeting him this afternoon.

    More to come...

just remember these people are salesmen not car/truck people (from what ive found) they couldnt tell me much about the truck and i doubt they will tell you much about them. Its their job to sell you what you dont really want/need and make you feel good about it. i do wonder if your father in law was behind you giving the thumbs up for the SR to the salesman LOL

when i was looking that was the only thing i wanted and couldnt install myself from the SR5 package (without it being more trouble than it was worth. When you think about the rear window its one of those things where if you never had it you dont know that you miss it.

I have owned my new TRD OR since Tuesday, and still can not get the power seat adjusted to be as comfortable for my 6’4” self as my son’s manual seat SR…..ugh

BTW - my wife, my son, and I all easily agree that the seats in both our 2022 Tacomas are far more comfortable than the seats in our 2016 4Runner SR5. After 6 years and 100K miles of 4Runner ownership, we all agree the 4Runner is over-rated.

All depends what your needs are. I'm not concerned with having basically a 4 dr 4wd suv with a short bed. I sometimes wish i had a bed longer than 6' for my access cab, but it is what it is. As far as the sr, nothing wrong if you prefer a basic truck which i do, but the sr quite meet my needs...had to order the sr5 instead. Learned long ago its best to get everything you want in a vehicle factory installed rather than adding it on later.

Well, i've found truth to it when you try to sell, or trade that vehicle down the road. It eventually comes down to the original build's worth, no matter how much you've added extra into it.
